18+3 and no movement

Just that really - tried calling midwife today but no luck and can't get in to see a GP to check heartbeat.

I was fine about it until everyone started asking and looking confused when I said I hadn't felt anything concrete yet. I've had little things but nothing that I can be certain of iyswim? Checked my 12 week scan notes and nothing about anterior placenta so just looking for some reassurance!

Is it your first? I felt nothing with DD until 24 weeks.

Is this dc1? With ds I felt nothing at all until 23 weeks.

Do you have 20 week scan booked soon? That may reassure you.

So you haven't felt any movements yet (rather than movements you have been feeling stopping)?

If you just haven't felt any yet, that is utterly normal. 18 weeks is often the earliest people feel definite movements. 20-22 is still perfectly normal. I'm 23 with DC3 and definitely didn't feel anything until after 18 weeks each time.

If previous movements have stopped, that is a much bigger worry. Though at such an early stage it can just mean that the baby has shifted position.

Sorry yes, this is my first. My midwife started me feeling nervous tbh, she asked me a few days ago if I'd felt movement and when I said no she said "hmmm well we'll keep an eye on that". My 20 week scan is 2 weeks today, which feels like a lifetime!

Did you hear the heartbeat at 16 weeks? I am 21 weeks with dc3 and I've only felt movements the last couple of weeks, later than the other two. And I know what I'm looking for!

Try not to worry.

I've felt things, but nothing particularly distinctive - like it could just be gas iyswim? The feelings are so fleeting and few and far between and I don't feel confident saying that they are definitely movements

That sounds like the absolute classic of the sorts of movements you would feel at 18 weeks with a first. Nothing definite, and very sporadic.

If you would feel better, call your EPU, but nothing you are saying here is in itself unusual.

I thought it was wind too. Grin My DH realised it was kicks! Please try not to worry.

Im 35+2 with my first and i didnt feel anything until about 28 weeks. I was worried as lots of people had said they had felt movements early but the midwife said there was nothing to worry about. If you have been busy then maybe you have missed them? Dont worry about it, and congratulations Xmas Smile

I didn't feel kicks until way after 20 weeks. I have an anterior placenta, it was only mentioned at the 20 week scan, not mentioned on the 12 week scan paperwork.

Thanks everyone... What should I be looking out for, what kind of feelings?

Don't worry you probably are feeling it but don't recognise it yet! It sounds like you are with the bubbly feeling. Even when you do feel it it will be few and far between at first!

18 weeks is still early!

I didn't feel anything until 22 weeks, am currently trying to bf 6mo ds to sleep ! Easy for me to say but try not to worry, I believe if the placenta is in front of baby it dulls the movement but mine was behind and I still didn't feelmuch. I didn't feel much all the way through and he was sleeping at every scan. Some babies just don't move much it seems. he has made up for it since

My first proper kick was a huge wallop! As if he was trying to tell me something.. But before that all I really felt was slight flutters and wiggles, nothing that substantial. Not sure if everyone else is the same.

It might well feel like bubbles or gas for a while, and start to feel more rhythmic and clear as time goes on.

Report
ZingChoirsOfAngels · 27/12/2013 15:12

baby could be "facing backwards" - you won't feel a thing.

the big average to feel first movements is anytime between 18-22 weeks - earlier with consecutive pregnancies.

Thank you ladies, I feel a little more chilled out now. Clearly it's still early days!

Don't worry, you're quite normal. People kept asking me if I'd felt 'butterflies' when I was having DS. I didn't feel anything definite until well after my 20 week scan.

Report
ZingChoirsOfAngels · 27/12/2013 15:16

some of mine felt like butterfly wings flapping if that makes sense.

and bubbles too.

I know you are impatient, but honestly it's early days, no need to worry.

try and see GP or MW next week to check out heartbeat, that will make you feel better! Smile

Report
HowAboutNo · 27/12/2013 15:21

Thank you - I'm definitely going to try and see either MW or GP next week to hear hb rather than wait and have a mini meltdown before my scan!

I felt nothing 'proper' until about 20 weeks. Now I'm 22 weeks baby keeps me up all night with kicking and prodding, I wouldn't worry too much Grin I also didn't find out where my placenta was until the 20 week scan.

Hello. I could've written this post two weeks ago!! I've been so so paranoid that baby not moving as I've only felt the odd flutter usually followed by a big fart so I've written it off to wind. Had 20 week scan today and initially panicked as baby wasn't moving at all then radiographer showed us the heartbeat. All ok. Everything was ok. My placenta is right across my front hence it cushioning my little ones movements! Hurrah! I don't think they can tell exactly where placenta is at 12 weeks.. So don't worry. Wait for scan! Lots of love xxx

I read somewhere that the stronger your abdominal muscles are the less likely you are to feel anything which is why you tend to feel things a lot sooner with subsequent pregnancies.
