Pregnancy

Just got a BFP but I'm on Depo

Title says it all.

I had my first Depo injection on 28th June. I was on one of the last light spotting days of my period. I bled for one day on the 5th July. We have a 15.5 month old DD, I'm not long back at work and to be honest I can count on one hand how many times DH and I have had sex since the injection.

DH is very quiet and probably more shocked than I am and we are trying to get our heads around it.

I know i need to make an appt with a MW, but How often do they give you a dating scan if you don't know how far along you are? I could be 4 weeks, I could be 12 weeks. I've put being tired etc down to being back at work. I had no sickness or major symptoms with DD so I can't even go by past experience to guess.

Sorry if I'm babbling. I'm just in a bit of shock.

I'm sorry for the confusion you are having :/ must be hard enough as it is to get your head around. I am only expecting my first and I have no clue myself so can't really give any advice.

Any idea of the dates of DTD? Any chance you could have been preggers before the jab? Xx

I'd just make an appointment with a midwife and just explain what you have here. She'll either try and guess how far along you are or, book you in for a dating scan.

Your first scan isn't always necessarily at 12 weeks. It's just an estimated time around 12 weeks to see how far gone you are.

IIRC one of the risks of getting pregnant on Depo was ectopic pregnancy. Fingers crossed that won't happen to you but it might give you a reason to ask for an early scan which would also help with the dating question.

Definitely see your midwife and put her in the picture. Are you certain you want to continue with the pregnancy? Even at 12 weeks you would still have options. I hope I haven't offended if you have already ruled this out.

Snazzy, not offended at all. Not continuing with the pregnancy isn't even a question in my eyes.

I'm just very confused as we weren't planning baby number 2. DD was a planned and tried for pregnancy which took 6 months of ttc so I definitely wasn't expecting to get pregnant while on contraception.

Will phone my doctors surgery this morning to make a booking in appt with the midwife and hopefully see if I can get an early scan. If I can't we have no problem with booking a private scan for when I could be 7 weeks if I was currently only 4 weeks.

Luckily we still have Moses basket etc and I've kept all DD's clothes. We have 4 bedrooms and while I'm only working p/t I earn a good salary and DH runs a reasonably successful company, so we aren't worried about being able to provide for another baby.

I'm just freaking out at 2 under 2! And DD was a dream baby so I'm going to get one made if Velcro this time aren't I? Grin

Thank you for your support.

Just to update.

Spoke to an unusually helpful doctors receptionist and I'm seeing a doctor this afternoon and she also made me a midwife appt for Friday.

I explained I had Depo injection and didn't know how far I am and also my concern for the risks.

Not too sure what doctor will do as I only asked for MW appt but she said I should see the doctor too.

Will see what happens this afternoon.

So to update you all

Spoke with the Dr and he decided to see if he could hear a heartbeat to try and get a rough idea of how far I could possibly be. He picked up baby's heartbeat pretty quickly and told me his Doppler wouldn't get a heartbeat before about 10 weeks. After a feel of my stomach he said my uterus hasn't popped out yet so not going to be past 12 weeks.

So there we are. I'm between 10-12 weeks. Hopefully when I see the MW on Friday she can phone and get me a scan to confirm it all for in the next couple weeks.

EEEEEK. DH and I are both absolutely shitting ourselves and I had a good little cry earlier more out of shock than anything.

Glad to hear tales of 2 good babies Wink

Tiredemma Ive just read your thread. How wonderful and massive congratulations on you DD!

DH and I are still very much in the shock stage. I told him earlier that yes ok it certainly wasnt what we were expecting but did he have to look so bloody suicidal?! He's a very practical person and worries about the practicalities of it all. Childcare, keeping on top of the house, time together and how knackered we will be. I had to remind him that as DD was EBF its not like he ever had to get up to do night feeds etc anyway!

Still very much shitting myself but starting to feel a bit more positive.

Just another little update for you.

Saw midwife this afternoon. She's put me at about 11.5 weeks and an EDD of 30.03.14 and we were able to get a scan for Friday next week.

She really reassured me that the Depo is unlikely to have caused any side effects.

Blimey, this is actually real and happening isn't it?!

Tea, the first thing I did Tuesday morning was go out and buy done colic acid. Had to do it covertly as bumped into a friend while walking to boots. She was going too so said "oh I'll walk with you". I expertly hid it under some make up wipes Grin

When I saw MW on Friday she didn't seem too bothered I hadn't started it until 11 weeks.

I don't know how I'm going to get through this week until scan Friday though. I want to make sure everything is ok with baby especially as I've been symptom free other than a bit of tiredness and only slightly tender boobs. With DD I couldn't bend over or walk down the stairs without a bra on as they hurt so much!

DH is over the shock now too luckily and is doing the whole concerned dad to be thing. My iron was very low during first pregnancy and he's already nagging me about taking iron supplements!

Less than 4 hours until my scan. I'm getting that nervous excitement I remember having with my 12 week scan for DD. Got stuff to keep me busy until about 1:30 then DD will hopefully be asleep. Will need to find something to do to keep me busy from them until I shove DD to a friend under false pretences at 3.

Can't wait to try and pee in a tiny little container again Hmm

EEEEEK!
