At nearly 11 weeks pregnant I have been wanting fizzy drinks for the past few weeks, or fresh fruit juice (not squash though) the sugar free ones don't cut it, and its not coke I want but fruity fizzy drinks like fanta, tango or vimto Hmm I'm getting a bit worried ill be having far too much sugar, but if I am drinking it I'm trying not to exceed 1-2 glasses a day. Has anyone else had this?

I craved Coke at some point in each of my pregnancies. I made sure that I didn't have any at home, or never more than one small bottle (500ml?). I would have half a glass, and fill up the rest with ice. That way I would have my fix 2-3 times a week at most.

But it also depends on your intake of other caffeinated or sugary things, and your own tolerances. I am very sensitive to caffeine and had blood-sugar issues later in pregnancy, so had to be very careful.

I had similar- I couldn't stomach water for a while, so was drinking a lot of lemonade and fizzy fruit drinks. I also craved jelly sweets, so I was having a lot of sugar overall! I'm a big believer in the idea that your body knows what it needs, so I wouldn't worry too much. Also, it will probably pass quite quickly.

Have you tried fruit juice with sparkling water? Apple juice, berry juice, and pineapple juice are the best IMO for mixing. That way you get fizz + sweetness, but less sugar and no nasties.

It's the blood sugar thing that worries me as my sister is type 2 diabetic as is my mum. When she was pregnant with me she had gestational diabetes (not that it means I'll have that too!)

Caffeine wise, I'm having no more than 1-2 cups of tea a day.

I craved full fat coke and chocolate through both my pregnancies and both girls turned out fine, however I did put on loads of weight! Hoping this time round I crave fruit and veg! I started on the sugary drinks etc when I kept feeling faint so I do think ur body craves it for a reason. Good luck xx

Fruity fizzy drinks (like fanta etc) don't contain caffeine, so its only the sugar that you need to worry about.

Are you eating enough the rest of the time? Maybe you are craving sugar as your body needs more calories. I've eaten a lot more since pregnant but not put on more than baby weight. Think like all women I ate fewer calories than recommended before I was pregnant

I found out I was pg at week 5 and between then and week 9 I felt horrible and hardly ate so whether my body is making up for it, I don't know :/

Im enjoying fizzy drinks too but like you they have to be full sugar, anything diet turns my stomach! They do make me really bloated though so im trying not to have too many.

Fresh orange juice is my thing at the moment, I dread to think how many extra calories im getting from that!

Another fan here. Sometimes nothing hits the spot like a can of cherry coke.

I don't worry about it, but I don't drink it to excess either.

Fizzy drinks seem a common craving I'm finding out.

What about trying squash made with sparkling water?

I find the cheap value water the best because its basically fizzy tap water and I find you can taste the minerals in the expensive brand named water which to me doesn't taste nice when mixed with squash.Smile

I have been craving ice cold orange Fanta on and off through my pregnancy. When I do fancy it, I only have one a day, and I really savour it - it feels even better knowing it is a treat, as not something I would usually have. I say just enjoy it, as long as you're not overdoing it, or using it as your only source of hydration.

Hmm, I really want some now...

I was exactly the same, fruity fizzy drinks and pure orange juice. I also ate satsumas by the bucket load. It was just about all I could stomach a lot of the time.

I normally drink water, but hated the taste of it and I have never liked squash. My boss told me to try lemon squash though and it was amazing with ice cold water. The sharpness of it seemed to quench my thirst when nothing else could.

I had the gtt due to my bmi and was fine.

I found in the 2nd trimester I was fine with water again, but now I'm near the end I'm back to wanting orange juice or fizzy drinks. Trying to limit the fizzy drinks to a weekend treat.

Snap for me too. Before I was pregnant I would never have entertained the idea of Fanta! However in the earlier week I found that I have craved the orange version of Fanta - and orange squash (I usually drink Apple and Blackcurrant!) My main cravings have been for fruit and fruit juice too and I had a spell of chomping my way through a selection of Haribo's finest! (again not something I would usually eat!) Think you just have to go with what your body wants (within reason) A can of fanta here and there isn't going to hurt.

I'm 25 weeks now and back on my usual drinks (no Fanta in sight!) although I still can't eat enough fruit! :)

For me the fizzy water and fruit juice combo has been a winner. I haven't been the best drinker of water at the best of times, but this helps me keep up the water intake and you can shut your eyes and pretend it's fanta!!!! Favorites are grape juice or cranberry juice with fuzzy water, the last one helping me with the uti I had around week 14!!!

Another pregnant full fat coke drinker here. I try to limit it, but I crave it all the time. It was the same in my last pregnancy. On the other hand, I can't eat until dinner time because of nausea, so that balances out. Right? Hmm

diet coke or hot ribena here. Anything else just turns my stomach, including water! I know how bad diet coke is for us, but I just cant drink anything else. So hopefully any liquid is ultimately better than none at all! Confused

Isn't craving fizzy drinks a sign of needing more calcium or something else? There's a chart somewhere that explains the lacking in when you get a particular craving.
