Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Lucinda I have movicol for constipation. It's great when you can keep it down but it does make me puke. However the relief from constipation is wonderful if you can manage to keep it in.

Not alot I can do for the pain apparently. I can take codeine if i want but its not recommended. Use a hot water bottle and warm baths I was told. I can have a referral if it continues.

Sounds like you need it, sally. having HG and the nausea / vomitting is god-awful enough. sciatica on top? Unless it settles down in next couple days, it sounds like you really do need more help, like a referral.

I'm in hospital and have been since sunday. just starting to feel human again today. I have lost count of how many times I've thrown up whilst crying and saying 'i don't want to do this anymore' which is a horrible thing to say but my god, it's so hard to do this. I had a scan on Monday to confirm heartbeat and was almost disappointed to see one as at that point I just wanted to be able to have the removal op and stop the sickness. They gave me steroids last night, the last ditch attempt, and it seems to be working.

when it's that bad, it's hard not to think of taking the final and most difficult step. Even when it's a much-wanted pregnancy.

Hope the steroids help, tallyra. Hang on in there.

Oh sally you poor thing, I hope it all eases for you.

tallyra I think a fair few of us begged for it to stop, it's an understandable reaction. Don't feel bad about it. I know I often feel like a miscarriage would be a huge relief, just anything to feel normal again. The steroids have helped me a load, so hope they do the same for you.

Just back from seeing GP after an urgent examination and its probably a slipped disk. Great, just flippin typical. This means its here for the duration and can't do nothing about it till I give birth. She wants me to take the codeine and paracetamol 4 times a day but I have to persevere and stretch as much as possible. Just bloody great!!

Oh crap Sally! Do you know how you did it? I feel so sorry for you. Dealing with the sickness is enough on its own I can't imagine also coping with pain on top.

I don't know how woo you are but are there any alternative therapy options you could consider? My sister slipped a disc in her neck and went undiagnosed for months before having the op. She had professional massage every week which made it more bearable for her. I know swimming is sometimes advised too but it's hardly an option in our vomming situation.

I realise how easy it is to dish out advice on a forum without fully comprehending the situation. You definitely need lots of sympathy and hugs to get through this.

Tallyra - I second what MOG has said. Don't feel bad about it.

Oh man its hard seeing everyones problems. Sally, I really feel for you- consider a massage treatment, its something to look forward to and helps with the pain. Im on the other hand, really constipated thanks to ondansetron. Im half tempted to start weaning off the meds but I feel i will enter that vomiting cycle again....

ChocChaffinch · 04/09/2013 14:18

Welcome to the new thread, everyone.
Just dashing on to say, Tallyra You poor thing, I know how desperately you wanted a baby, and for you to feel that you hope it was an mmc, I can't imagine how you must be suffering. Those steroids do seem to have helped everyone who's been on them - with any luck they'll do the trick for you. Gentle cyber pats. This is he worst it can get. As others say,
hang on.

Totes- I have no idea how I've done it. I had just had a bath before the pain got so bad but I've had lower back and bum pain for a while now and that was diagnosed as pregnancy girdle pain. I suppose I'm still hoping the GP is mistaken and its just the baby putting pressure on my sciatic nerve.

I've taken a couple codeine and its taken the edge off a little so I can sit and try to eat. I've bought an extra hot water bottle so I can put heat on my leg aswell as my back. Going to get dh to massage my hip and leg, back is too painful to rub.

I've had to take another ondansetron. Feeling pretty sick although I'm yet to puke today. Think it's a mix if being so tired and in pain that's making the nausea worse than it has been lately. Really can't cope with it all so I'm going back on meds for now.

On a nicer note, got a couple more baby bargains online from my iphone. Don't know if your all aware but Tesco points can be doubled up against baby clothing and they have a huge baby event on right now. I spent £3 and got 7 newborn baby sleepers!
It seems all I can do right now is watch tv and shop on my phone all from my bed :-) dh keeps answering the door to parcel men and shouting up the stairs "how much have you spent now"
I keep telling myself in between my tearful moments at least it's not as bad as earlier, when I couldn't even think about preparing for a baby coming.

Just re - read some of the articles on pregnancy sickness SOS and ones linked to in there like Helpher and found it therapeutic.

That's it really, all I wanted to say. Just lying here on sofa contemplating eating something....

Sorry cross posted Sally. I guess they caant be sure until you have had an MRI? i hope your GP is wrong! Glad you can console yourself with shopping. It's far too early for me to shop and I am superstitious too. We don't need to get much anyway. It will be more about moving DS into a grown up bed etc.

MurderOfGoths · 04/09/2013 15:53

Oh yes, the tesco baby sale is fantastic. When you've all escaped pregnancy hell I highly recommend stocking up on nappies and wipes whenever they have the baby event, it's saved us a fortune with DS.

Report
Sally8655 · 04/09/2013 16:11

MOG strangely I never thought of nappies and wipes, oh well that's another shop online :-)

Totes- I didn't want to buy anything early either. Not due to superstition but just because if anything was to go wrong, I wouldn't know what to do with it all and it would make me feel worse. However once I started just last Saturday, there is no stopping me. I suppose I start week 20 tomorrow so I've got to start buying some time.

Hey all.

Tallyra, I'm sorry you feel so bad, and Sally, that is awful.

I had the 16 week appt today, bp and urine fine. They said not to worry that I am not showing, and seemed pleased that some of the weight I have lost is going back on. I also got a rx for a laxative - something liquid which worries me but haven't been to a chemist yet.

Can't help thinking weight gain related to constipation - if it is all going in and not coming out then it is just sitting there...... urgh

Hospital tomorrow for the quadruple test, which is scary as hell but I am doing it anyway. Meep

Then it is the countdown to the 20 wk scan. Doc said I can expect to feel movement in the next 2-3 weeks, and not to worry that I am not 'showing' as yet.

Sally Just thought - thickhead! An Osteopath will certainly be able to help. If you can afford just one session it will help, I am sure, I've known people hobble there and walk out normally!
Tallyra How are things, now?
Sorry everyone seems to be having a pretty awful time, one way or another. If it isn't coming up one way, it isn't coming out the other...Oh dear. Sad.

Quick question, just been to see the doctor as I've been doing steadily worse all day. He's sending me for an urgent blood test tomorrow to check kidney function, and whether I'm dehydrated, I've been checking ketones (and coming up with "trace"), is this likely to give different results?

Report
Sally8655 · 04/09/2013 19:09

Lucinda great idea, I've actually just popped my back, goodness knows how. And pain in the bottom of my leg has eased, just back, butt and thigh now. It was a really weird feeling like something long down my back sprung back into place with a loud pop. Hoping it happens a few more time and ill be cured! Not my luck but you never know.

Report
Sally8655 · 04/09/2013 19:12

MOG- my bloods were different to ketones, I had low ketones because i was able to eat some sugar but was really dehydrated.
