short things to do whilst in laws visiting

After our baby's born we'll be having the in laws over for probably two weeks. Bub will be small, as in max 6 weeks old, but I'd like to prep a few small activities that we can all do that are short and achievable. I plan to be breastfeeding.

So far I have...
-coffee shop trip

  • swimming pool visit
  • lunch out

What else can we do? Trying to avoid simply being sat at home all the time, much as I love them Smile

Any advice appreciated x

What time of year will it be?

How about a Christmas market? Or a bit of Christmas shopping? xx

I'd check with the pool about swimming if your taking the baby as most wont allow babies in the pool until they have received their vaccinations.

Garden centres are usually lovely at Christmas and most larger ones have cafes.

Like the idea of garden centres - we've got some lovely ones near us. Christmas prep too, in short stints, could be really nice (in laws from abroad so it'd be new to them too)

Maybe also think of some half day activities for the in laws to get them out the house, if you fancy some private time? Esp if your DH is having his pat leave straight after the birth.

ruled by thats not true, doctors used to advise a few years ago that you wait until they had their jabs but that was only advice, pools cant enforce anything about them espescially as they are not mandatory!mine arent vaccinated and were all taken at around 6 weeks of age.

Private time will be really important I think, so getting Dh out with them is def a plan. Kind of wish he didn't have to go with them though - must at least try to sit on that feeling! They won't be here for long...

Swimming pool won't work for you if you're still passing lochea - sorry, but more fun to wait til you can go in with baby.

Things around Christmas theme will be fun though - one of the bits I loved was being able to invent my own traditions for the new family, like finding a different tree decoration to put in ds's stocking each year Smile

Just found a Christmas tree Farm - figure that will be a tradition to start! Thanks about the swimming too, I'll make sure we check all with the doc as we go.

Also don't discount an evening trip - nice meal in a nearby pub/restaruant - have starters and pud at home?

Do you have any other family nearby. Just wondering if your parents (for eg.) could invite them round for coffee or something?

The starters and pud idea is great, they've been floored by the costs we pay for dinner, so that'd help them not freak out Grin
God I can hear them talking dates downstairs on Skype , be strong my husband!!

You really are good, I've told my parents (who live in London, we're in the north) that they can only come for a week after the birth.

Just can't fathom entertaining them and probably in-laws (who live nearby, but would feel left out if they weren't getting the same amount of baby access) and getting used to the fact that a whole new person has come out of my fanny. Are there any tourist attractions etc that they could get to without your DH?

Send them out by themselve occasionally, e.g. supermarket.

Short walk in local park with you and baby?

hels not true, there is no requirement for any vaccines to go swimming, vaccines are not legally enforced so its actually illegal for any swimming pool to tell you you cant go in if your babies not vaccinated.

Sorry dont want to hijack thread op just dont want people who are reading this to have false info.you can be advised to do something buy theres no way and establishment can tell you you cant go in.
