I haven't got my booking in until next Wednesday when I'll be 11+6 apparently they couldn't get me in any earlier!
I'll be too late for my 12 week scan by the time it's all arranged :(

They will already have made the scan appointment for you, I should think and will only hand you the letter with the time at the booking appointment. So it might well be a few days after. Also, they can do the 12 week scan til 14 weeks or something. I'm sure someone else will know the exact date.

Don't worry about it.

First scan can be done up until 13+6if you are having combined test.

I know this sounds really stupid but what would happen if I had if after 12+6? Would they not be able to see certain things?
I had an early scan at 6 weeks and saw a heartbeat so not as nervous as I would be if I hadn't already seem the baby

They can do the nuchal translucency test (part of the combined test) between 11+2 and 14+1. The timing does depend on how confident you are in your dates as they do the dating at the same time.

If you can't do the combined test (eg if they can't get you in for a scan in that window, although I'm sure they will) there is a different screening test for Down's - a blood test - that can be done up to 20 weeks.

The dating, however, gets less accurate the further you are along so you need to take that into account if their dating and your dates don't match.

You could always phone the midwife and ask. Where I am you get sent your scan in the post, I hadn't received mine so called and they told me the date and time over the phone. I've just received my letter and my scan is on Tuesday.

I phoned the scanning department directly as I had heard nothing. They said they had no record of me and booked me straight in.

Thanks Daeira. Actually got no idea when I conceived as I fell pregnant on the pill. They dated me at 6 weeks at an early scan although said it could potentially change.

I feel you... 20 weeks today and still no scan appointment and no one left to quiz about it!!

where I live the midwife has nothing to do with booking the scan. all she did was write my green notes up then hospital sent the letter out. although before my 20 week scan I had to call up the hospital as I was already 19 wks and not had my scan date yet so made it there and then. If you call up the hospital and ask for the women's unit or ultrasound department they should be able to tell you the date. you don't need anything from the midwife. good luck x

I turned down the NT test however I had my scan at what I thought was 12+5 and was offered it...also turned out I was only 11+5 Grin.

Just wanted to mention though, where I live I had my booking in appointment and scan on the same day just in a different room down the hall. I then moved house and even though I was much further along I was told I had to book in again as it was a new health care area or something. I had this second booking in appointment at 18+4 and I was given another scan...sonographer thought it was my 12 week until I told her/she scanned, and it ended up being half of my 20 week scan, with the rest to be done a week tomorrow (when I'll be 22+1). So it might be combined like that. I was really surprised and confused also, but every area operates differently so perhaps giving MW a little call would be a good idea if it will help put your mind at ease Smile

I also say book it in, call the unit directly, they will have a record of you from early scan, the booking appointment then can just be about taking bloods. Congratulations x

I had my first visit with the midwife at 8 weeks but didn't get my bloods or anything checked until 12+6, where I thought it was 12+5 so one day out of my estimation. I just had fairly regularly TOTM.

I then got my bloods tested, the down syndrome test and my 12 week scan all together however had the scan in a different room, so perhaps it is that?

I also got mine through the post. :)

Congratulations on your little baby, by the way.

I just had an emergency booking in appointment yesterday as they reckon I may be 13 weeks already (surprise baby). When I was at the hospital I booked the scan appointment myself for next week. Phone the maternity ultrasound dept directly to see if they can slot you in.

Tried about 6 times to ring antenatal clinic yesterday on my lunch and no luck. It either rang for ages or said they were engaged on the phone to someone else!
So rang after work in the car on the way home and got a message saying 'we are open 9-5.30 Monday - Friday. To book a scan please call between hours of 10 and 4 however we receive a huge number of calls so please be patient.' ARGHHHH! How on earth am I supposed to book if I work bloody full time?!

I didn't realise babies were a 9-5.30 job for the hospital. Suppose I should have realised from the beginning of my pregnancy though.. A suspected ectopic meant a 3 hour wait for a doctor for a simple repeat blood test on a Sunday morning due to the fact nurses couldn't get it out my arm as have funny veins. When I asked about it apparently they only had 1 doctor on for the whole of gynaecology and maternity.. During my blood test doc got paged to go to operating theatre to help out in a c section!
