Is there anything I can do about morning sickness?

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my first and suffering from the most horrendous nausea. Not actually throwing up (sorry) but feeling sick from the moment I wake up until I go back to bed again (at some ridiculously early time - I am exhausted!). Is there anything I can do about this? I have tried ginger but it's not really doing anything!

I found sipping fizzy water helped and boiled sweets, ginger never worked for me but the fizzy water really helped :)

Hello try and kp your blood sugar levels stable by snacking on bits of toast, plain biscuits etc. that does help.

Ps and ice lollies - if you can suck on an ice lolly they are less of a shock to your stomach than sudden amounts if food/fluid and they kp you hydrated.
Emergency doctor told me this as was v poorly with morning sickness.
It will pass I promise.

I've lollies sound good, I'll give that a go! I've had to cut out anything fizzy though because I'm also horrifically bloated! Not all the time, but after anything fizzy or if I chew gum. I've noticed the nausea is definitely worse if I haven't eaten for a while so the blood suger thing really makes sense. Any ideas on when it's likely to get better?

In time you will figure out what works for you and what doesn't. Mine went away at about 15 weeks. All I can suggest is that you eat as often as you can, although I know that sometimes feel impossible! Also try seabands on your wrists, they can take the edge off!

I found that a lot of sleep helped - I'm talking being in bed for about 12 hours a night, sounds odd but it made a massive difference. Also, having plain things to nibble on during the day like crackers, oatcakes etc, and making sure you are eating regularly (plan for mid morning and mid afternoon snacks).

The other thing that helped was flat lucozade - just heat it up to get rid of the fizzy. It's especially good if you don't feel like eating much as it keeps your energy up.

I'm 14 weeks and it's only really starting to settle now. Plain digestive biscuits and boiled sweets help me. I know it's the most horrible thing in the world. Morning sickness, more like all day sickness. Congratulations x

I'm 13 wks and the sickness (lots of vomiting!) and nausea is only just starting to subside a little, here's what helped me survive it..
~ Cold food - doesnt smell as strong as hot
~ COLD drinks - icy cold, somehow feels nicer
~ Potato based foods are edible - crisps, jackets potatoes etc
~ If I know I'm going to be sick soon I eat a plum and glass of fresh orange juice - it doesnt taste so bad when coming back
~ AVOID a full tummy or an empty tummy, not easy but both made me feel really awful
~ The knowledge that while I'm feeling so bad its a sign that things are happening so all is good (just doesnt feel like it)
~ Sleep!!
~ Keep sipping drinks, its easy to get dehydrated really easily
~ Ice lollies are lovely
Good luck with it, it wont last forever but I can sympathise how bad it is in the meantime x

Thanks for the suggestions. I am willing to try anything! But you're right about focusing on how it's a sign things are going well. I know I'd worry if I didn't have any symptoms.

I know how you feel. Thanks

I found lemonade helped. or orange squash that was ice ice cold. the coldness really helped.

I also found salt and vinegar crisps were things of beauty.

I second the cold food suggestion, also if you can get someone else to make food for you then do so. it helped me not to be involved in the cooking.

key things are eat little bits all day so you dont get hungry or full.
keep a bottle of water with you to sip on as its so easy to get dehydrated.

good luck OP

what Abi said worked for me. I also cut out meat as this made it much worse for me. A lot of beige food TBH, also I found plain water made it worse - squash etc better - but had to be very cold. S&V crisps were a lifesaver. xx

champagne you have reminded me of my satsuma obsession I had - i used to travel about with at least 3 in my handbag, and if we were running low I got rather panicked about it!

I keep breadsticks by the bed so I can give my stomach something to work on before I get up. DH wakes to sound of crunching every morning but I assure him it's only short term! I'm nearly 11wks now and it's starting to get better, hope yours does too

Huge sympathies, so awful. Expect it till about 15 weeks I'm afraid. I found carbs helped, and I ate them very regularly! Nothing really works but time passing though. It is hard.
