Bio Oil during pregnancy?

I didnt use any lotions and potions to conquer stretchmarks when having dd as I was convinced "its a myth if Im gonna get them Im gonna get them". And I got them.

So, now pg with number two I am mad keen not to fet any more or see these ones get any worse. Will lashings of Bio Oil help or is it a no go when pg?

I used it, religiously, all over my bump. Thought I'd got away with it. At 37 weeks I suddenly looked like I had been clawed by a tiger. 37 effing weeks! My advice is, only use it if you like the smell. It's expensive & it's not guaranteed to work. My sister used nothing & got no stretch marks. Envy

I use cocoa butter in the morning and bio oil at night since the second trimester. So far at 38 weeks stretch mark free. I was a non lotion person too before pregnancy.

Oh and bio oil helped completely fade a scar on my arm so I think of it as a bonus.

I did well with pg1 and got to about 36wks all smug that I was mark free. Then I managed to catch sight of the underside of my bump. Now, my stomach isnt too bad but my waist is awful. I often imagine this is what shark attack victims must look like.

Currently 40+4 with DC1 and no stretch marks so far. I have used Bio Oil every day since 12 weeks. My MW says it makes no difference but it doesn't do any harm and makes me feel better that I am trying at least. I get mine from Amazon for £10 which is half the price of everywhere else.

Thanks for the tip, I will order some.

The smell of Bio Oil made me want to vomit, so I am now using Coco Butter stuff which is scent free. I can still feel the Coco Butter on my skin at the end of the day, so definitely good quality lotion.

I think I will still get stretch marks as my mum and sister have them, but at least I will know that I did something to try to prevent them

BioOil is mainly mineral oil (same as baby oil) with tiny amounts of other stuff. Stretch marks are mainly genetically determined, and topical creams/oils don't really make a difference. But there's no harm, especially if you like the smell.

I'm genetically prone to stretch marks and have loads from weight gain/loss over the years, but I used bio oil in my first pregnancy and despite being the size of a small planet I didn't get a single stretch mark! I started again at 12 weeks this time but this thread has just reminded me I've not put it on in a few days, thanks for the reminder!

I've used it all the way through, I've been getting from Amazon for £10, which is half price on that particular size, think its 200ml. I think its more genetic that I havent got any yet, but it cant do any harm!

I used Bio oil thought my first pregnancy and hardly any stretchmarks, one or two faint lines. I love the smell and find it relaxing to use before bed.

However forgot with my second and haven't bothered at all with my third, no stretchmarks!

I dont think it does prevent them if you are going to be prone, but im all for it as a relaxing oil

I use it religiously - but I have been told by lots of people that if you are going to get bad marks you will get them whatever you do - because this is the skin stretching much lower into the skin layers that the cream reaches IYSWIM. And even though I know this, I am still slapping it on!

I spent most of my pregnancy feeling v smug I didn't have any stretch marks. Then BAM! The day I went over 40 weeks they suddenly appeared. I gave birth at 40 + 12 and they weren't too bad at that point. However they became even worse in the fortnight that followed - I have no idea why!

I'm now using it religiously to help them fade (I'm 10 weeks pp) - it does seem to be helping and is making them feel a bit less itchy. Will definitely use it during pregnancy next time.

Just checked Amazon; still half price. However Boots are also doing it BOGOF for online orders, so 2x tubes for £20.

I used asdas little angels stretch mark oil, it's like 2 pound...I poured it in baths - just be careful, and used it every day. Never got any, to me bio oil was too expensive for the amounts I was using!

I used bio oil all through my last pregnancy. How smugly I laughed to myself when I got to the end with no stretch marks. How silly are people who don't use it, I thought to myself.

Then they all appeared after the birth when my stomach was shrinking.

I used it with ds2 and I was HUGE and got no stretch marks.
It's great stuff.

I used it all the way through and got stretch marks at 37 weeks I'm afraid. That said they aren't too bad. They are covered by my knicker line so very low down and none any further up.

As my stomach shrank back they were itchy and the Bio Oil calmed the itching down.

I don't know if that is down to Bio Oil but am pregnant with #2 and plan to use it again.

I used bio oil for a bit in my first pregancy but it made my skin flaky and I didn't like smell . Someone recommended burts bees massage oil and I never looked back same price but far nicer in my opinion . More natural on 2nd pregancy now still no marks :) get on amazon or e bay or buy in John lewis

I think you will either get them or won't down to genes for the most part. I have none after 2 pg and did nothing to get them. Bio Oil and the other marketeers are making a killing out of this idea.

Dh is a chemist and had a look at some oil labels for me- the wilko one has no nasties in it and smells really nice! It's cheap too

Have used Bio Oil, some Soap and Glory body butter (nice smell and consistency) but mainly have been using Asda Little Angels stretchmark cream and oil - the oil feels just like bio oil, and the cream is lovely too. Got them for about a quid each (in a sale, but usually about 1.50 or something ridiculously cheap)!

I have been using stuff sporadically when I feel tight or dry or when I remember and have no stretchmarks thus far - just tons and tons of cellulite all over my once rather attractive legs - even my calves!

I tried to get an answer out of my mum if she got them and got a very coy 'I was quite lucky with stretchmarks and they fade in time anyway' reply so have no idea if that meant she had them or not!

Now 37 weeks and nothing stretchmarky to report so far bangs hands frantically on wooden desk

Mamma mio body butter is another good stretchmark product. You can use the promotional code 'fitskinuk' for £10 off your first order, so it will only be £13 for a tube. It's not 200ml admittedly, and I wouldn't pay £23 for it, but I love the smell!! It was recommended by a friend. I've had bio oil too, and still use it once a day. It makes me happy, even if I will still look like I've been mauled by a tiger at 38/40 weeks Smile x

I used it at first with my first pregnancy, but it brought me out in a rash. I switched to Derma Mum cream, which was great.
