Pregnancy

18 Weeks and everyone is telling me I'm too big!

I'll be 18 weeks tomorrow and everyone I meet is shocked at how much I'm showing. They ask if I'm sure there is only on and if I have my dates right. I have always been very athletic and slight and the bump has been obvious since about 14 weeks. Should I be worried?

No, don't worry. If your midwife's happy just ignore. People keep saying this to me, I'm 34+4 now. I've always measured right and even measured 2cm under at my 34 week check. Midwife thinks baby will probably be similar to my dd, who was 7lb 4oz.

I think people don't really know how big your bump is meant to look...probably because everyone's different and carries differently. I wish they knew that it was rude to say anything other than how brilliant you look, though. You look brilliant, by the way Grin

If you have any concerns just check with your midwife at your next appointment. If you had 12 week dating scan only 6 weeks ago your baby was obviously the right size for its dates then, and if you're having another scan in a couple of weeks they'll check all the measurements then too.

Thank you for that, I'm fed up of people commenting as it just makes you worry.

I'm 12 weeks and have my scan this week and people are telling me that too. My fil is convinced its twins as I'm 'so big'. I'm generally a size 10 so feeling a bit consious how big I look to other people esp as a lot of people don't know yet and also wondering how big I will actually get Shock

I have had this all through my pregnancy- I'm 28 weeks now! It doesn't help when our friend is due the day before and half the size. I am sure if you are usually quite petit people take delight in telling you how 'big' you are .. or is that just me being cynical?

Don't worry, I started taking bump measurements in the last three weeks and it hasnt got any bigger, there will be a time when it starts slowing down !

I've been told 'you're huge!' and also 'you're not very big are you?'. People talk a lot of shite because they want to comment and appear interested but aren't sure what to say.

People told me that too, at 15 weeks. I got really big quite fast, then didn't change shape until I had Babygoat!

Don't worry about it. When I had DS (9+ lb baby) I didn't have to go into maternity clothes until 19 weeks, and I could tell that people were sizing me up as to whether I had gained weight or was pregnant for the next few weeks. When I had DD, I was in them at about 8 1/2 weeks and was quite obviously pregnant, then. She only turned out to be 7 1/2 lbs.

It isn't anyone else's business. As long as the midwife is happy then don't worry. Everyone is different. At 18 weeks I didn't look pregnant, but I am skinny and had very strong stomach muscles.

I was told I was huge with DD. asked if it was twins or if I had GD. She was 6lb5oz and 24 inches long. The placenta was bigger than her!!

This time I keep being asked if I'm sure I'm still pregnant as I'm not big enough for 31w... Yes, I am measuring small. I lost 4 stone due to HG. And baby is 2nd centile. Eh... People!!!

I had the same - some people saying "ooh aren't you big" and others saying "wow you're quite small". It did worry me a tiny bit which I didn't think it would.

Went to the midwife. She measured my bump. I'm exactly slap bang in the middle average. Now when people comment I correct them Grin

I am 19 weeks and also get a mixture of 'you have no bump' to 'you're huge' so I now have a rule (that I explicitly tell everyone who feels it appropriate to discuss my body size/shape!!)....If the words coming out of your mouth are anything other than 'everything looks perfect', then I don't want to hear your opinion.

I am 18+3 with twins and yes I look about 25 weeks if not more, but there is double baby, fluid and placenta. I had a friends nan tell me I as massive yesterday at her baby shower quickly followed by, well you were big already. Erm ok! I was a size 14 so not massive thank you and yes I've put on 1 stone, but its all bump! I mentioned this to my friend and she was rather angry. I said don't worry about it. Everyone else however has mentioned how glowing I am and that I look wonderful Grin this more than makes up for one nasty comment from an 80 odd year old!

In the same day 'are you sure it isn't twins' and... 'no, your dates are wrong - you must be further along' and.... 'gosh you look small, you are so lucky i was huge by your stage' etc etc. People just feel the need to comment - the same as once the baby is out - you will hear all sorts of odd things from people (my fave from friends with new babies is comments about the babies skin/eyes on a regular basis - i.e. 'look at the lovely olive skin, they will get a nice tan when they are older' (eh?), or 'those eyes, they will be def be brown like his dads' (bright blue/grey eyes of a new born) etc etc.Grin
