Can Instinct Overrule A Pregnancy Test?

DH and I have been TTC our second child. I am now three days late (I'm NEVER late) and I am pretty sure I'm pregnant but ClearBlue says no. Can I still be right? I have a few symptoms and feelings very similar to my first pregnancies. I took the test certain I knew the result so I'm really shocked.

If my period doesn't start I'll take another test first thing tomorrow, it's just driving me mad. I'm going out for dinner with DH tonight and I was so excited to tell him. Is there a chance I'm still pregnant or is it just wishful thinking?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, but in my experience the test doesn't lie Sad I was a couple of weeks overdue when I got a negative, like you feeling loads of symptoms and I couldn't believe it. 2 days later AF came with a vengence Sad

Hope you have a happier ending xx

Thank you.

I guess I'm surprised because my cycle is so regular you could set your watch by it. It is unheard of to be late.

The only positive is that it has reinforced how much I want another child. I had my doubts about the timing, but now I know having the baby is the most important thing, then we can worry about making everything else work around it.

You could try a more sensitive test? You never know...

How do I know which ones are more sensitive? I used a Clearblue Digital.

I never had a positive test with my older two dc, so it can happen.
With dc4, I had BFN from a clearblue digital, but BFP from eBay cheapy test.

I tested for DS2 and it was negative. I threw it in the bin and went downstairs to have a little cry. Ten minutes later I went back up and got it out of the bin (I was a bit obsessive) and it was positive. DS2 just turned one.

Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise (i.e. a period).

I had a BFN with the early response 7 days before I was due, but have PCOS so I have an odd cycle. I took a second early response test 3 days and it was "inconclusive".

I then had a BFP straight away on my due date with clear blue digital and couldn't believe it. In the night I stupidly got up thinking it was all a dream and took the second test (2pk) and it was positive.

Try again with a few different brands. Good luck, and keep us posted!

A CB digi really isn't the best test to use as it isn't that sensitive.

Your best bet is either a Superdrug test or a First Response Early Result (FRER). Or even pound shop cheapies, bizarrely!

And when you get a positive result depends when the fertilised egg implants. It usually takes 6-12 days to implant, and the HCG level should be high enough to get a positive result about 3 days after that, meaning a positive result around 9-15 DPO. For some people this means they won't test positive until after AF is due, regardless of what test is used.

The tests that say they can give you a result 5 days before your period rely on implantation at 6 DPO and a 28 day cycle / 14 day luteal phase.

Good luck when you test again :-)

Oh sorry to hear that, but like you, my experience also confirmed to me that I did really want another one. It happened a few months later so I'm sure you'll have happier news soon. Treat yourself gently for a while, I was surprised by how fragile I felt afterwards (I think it was the fact that I was so convinced in my mind with all the "symptoms").

Sorry to hear it's a negative this month Sad If you wanted some company while you're TTC, the Just Shagging thread in conception is lovely and has kept me sane(ish) while trying :)
