Hi ladies

im 34 weeks pg with dc 3. my first & second labours were both lovely, no problems all straight forward...first was 10 hrs in total and 2nd was 3/4 hrs. But this time im really really dreading it. I keep thinking this birth will be the one that is traumatic. I hve been told that bubs is on the big side and my midwife just said in passing at my last appoin tment would iconsidera section....so this has left me a bit nervy about what might happen ie baby getting stuck or shoulder distioca so just looking for some birth stories to help me ease the nerves if you dont mind. Thanks ladies. Frankly:-)

I was told 3rd labours are very stop start. I had a of faufalse starts but once in labour dc3 popped out in 15 mins. So quick and "easy" was amazing

Mine was very stop/start but in a weird way I could control it. I had to stay mobile nod upright to keep the contractions going but sat or rested and they stopped.

On the plus side I gave myself a lovey lunch break and then resumed contractions when my food had gone down. (Home birth)

Oh and me were all big babies and all home births.

I'm going to be watching this thread. I am 31+3 weeks with DC3 and am really scared of labour, more so than the other two. I don't have any reason to feel this way but I am dreading it.

I've been induced for all three dc (going overdue) dd was classic first baby, took three days, had ARM, drip, forceps etc. ds1 shot out four hours after first pessery so I was expecting another quick one for ds2. Had EMCS Confusedstarted contracting 20 mins after pessery so had a good start. All the midwives were very 'third babies are very unpredictable' they were right!!

Weirdly, I found I could control contractions too with my third! I had an epidural, it wore off on one side, midwife insisted I was ready to deliver and refused a top-up. I downed tools, stopped contractions and refused to have any more until I got the top-up.....
If you've had 2 straightforward labours, you're much more likely to have another one than for anything odd to happen. Relax and enjoy it!

I had an easy third birth compared to the first two. (Well, if the words 'easy' and 'birth' can be used in the same sentence! Still a leeeetle bit painful)

first labour, 26 hours (horrendous from start to finish!!) fifty thousand stitches, fair bit of undercarriage damage!!

second labour, 3 hours, easy peasy...10lb baby, small tear, home within a few hours.

third labour, about 8 hours. Had a planned homebirth, gas and air, no stitches, all lovely. I knew what I was doing, I felt very much in control, told the midwives when I was ready to push...I recognised the stages of labour myself, and went with it.

good luck! hope it goes well.

My first two labours were 12 hours and then 7. Just had third DCs and it was 3 hours my worst labour by far! For the first hour i wasnt sure i was in labour and then my waters broke and my contractions were constant. He was a big baby and came very quickly and as a result I suffered with a third degree tear. I had been warned that 3rd labours can be quick! Good luck!

My first was awful, second great (well relatively speaking) but for third I was really scared too. I think that because I knew an experience similar to the second was the best I could hope for, and let's face it, it's bloody agony, my body just tensed up. I got an epidural in the end (my first) and it was easy peasy from there on in. Still, three was enough and I am never ever doing that again. (Getting too old now anyway)

Watching with intrest already had 2 bad births, so was hoping this one might be a nicer (well as nice on me as it can be) my first was induced, only 4.5hrs but ended up in HDU loosing loads of blood and heart in shock, had some bad tearing. Second was 5 days of back to back labour, he got stuck for 2hrs and ended with assisted delivery, and then had to stay in 4 days on I.v antiBs cause had a bacteria growing in blood. I'm scared for this one seen as I've heard 3rds are worse xx

I was so scared about my third. Petrified Iwas shaking with fear!

But it was so quick and I recovered so quickly too.

3rd babies also tend to slot in :)

You will all be fine. Remember you have done it twice before and your body knows what it is doing.

How funny about controlling contractionsI ffelt exactly the same with mine. And because she was out within 15minutes I just relaxed ny body and instead of natural reaction to tense I kind of just let go and I felt her come all the way down and out she popped

I'm also pregnant with dc3 so watching this thread!

Can those of you saying your labour was very "stop and start" explain that in a bit more detail? And also how did you find you could control contractions? By doing breathing exercises?
Also, are third labours shorter but more painful and intense?

I had two very similar labours as you, FranklyShankly, so hopefully the third one is quicker for you too!
