Toxoplasmosis - help

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and have tested positive for toxoplasmosis.

My levels are apparently fairly low (285 UI/ml, whatever that means), but I need more tests (IGG and IGM) to determine whether I currently have had it or had it in the past.

Just wondering if anyone else has been through the same thing? I am too scared to Google.

Hi there. Sorry you're having such a stressful time. I think you've had what's known as a 'dye' test. Your result basically just tells you that you've had a toxoplasmosis infection at some time in your life (as many adults have). It dosnt tell you when that infection was (and noone will be able to tell you based purely on that test). What you need is an IgG along with an IgG avidity test. Those tests together will give a pretty accurate estimate as to when your infection was. In all likelihood you were infected years ago and the tests will confirm that.

I know its difficult to wait for results like these and you've definately done the right thing staying away from Google. It's good that you are early on in your pregnancy though because even if you were infected recently the likelihood that the infection has passed to the baby is less than 15% in the first trimester.

Hope it all works out ok.

Thank you, r3dsquirrel, that is really reassuring. I hope you are right and the tests confirm that I did have it a while ago.

I didn't realise that about the 15% - even more reassuring.

Thanks again.
