My friend just had a baby and I wanted to get an outfit that is a bit more personal than me buying one from Next etc. Any suggestions?

My friend has a baby shop, she hand embroiders everything and also does stuff like personalised towels etc (she does boys stuff too though this isn't on the website yet)

TK maxx, if you can bear it, is great for getting something a little unusual for babies. It's not all beige or powder blue and pink and has great range of patterns and styles.

I've got a bit carried away buying handmade baby clothes off Etsy they have an app as well as a website. It's a place to buy and sell hand made or vintage items around the world and have some brilliant baby clothes. I'm currently having a couple of baby hats knitted by a lady in California. You pay everyone by PayPal.

I quite like www.welovefrugi.com/baby/ although they are expensive (but I guess that's fine for a one off gift!)

Maybe too mainstream for you but H&M do some cute and funky baby clothes, that also happen to be cheap and wash really well.

My tip - buy something for 0-3 months or larger, not newborn. For the first few weeks your friend is unlikely to have the energy to put the baby in anything other than an easy to wash babygro. I have a drawer full of unworn new born outfits, all gifts. It such a waste.

I like Polarn O Pyret. Not cheap but do tend to have good discoutns in sales.
