Bleeding at seven weeks: anyone had this and not miscarried?

I found out I was pregnant last Thursday (seven weeks) and then almost immediately began to bleed. Initially it was brown and now has become heavier and bright red. Today is day three/four of the bleeding and it is not as heavy as a period, but I needed to ditch the panty liner and use a sanitary towel instead. I have a dull ache rather than cramping. Any experiences welcomed....I feel miscarriage is probably inevitable at the moment. The hospital say there's not much they can do unless it becomes unmanageable.

Happened to me last weekend. Most stressful weekend ever where we convinced ourselves it was all over but had a scan last Monday and saw a heartbeat. Have they done a scan? Bleeding early on does seem to happen to a lot of people but even so it is the most stressful thing ever.

Everything crossed for you.....

Light bleeding is fairly common in first trimester. I had it and also felt miscarriage was inevitable, but am now 35 weeks pregnant, so not inevitable.
Frustrating though it is (and believe me I remember the waiting) only time will tell. If you haven't had one already its worth asking for an early scan to see if there's a heart beat as that may give you an answer either way.

I had bleeding at 8 weeks, lasted three weeks, the crappiest three weeks ever, then stopped.

My little boy is now 10 months old :)

Bleeding early on happens to 1/4 of all women so don't worry too much. Go to the EPU near you and get a scan if you can to reassure you x

I had horrendous bleed at 7 weeks ish, lots of bright red blood. Dr at EPU saw heartbeat on internal scan, but told me to expect to mc. DS was 2 last week! Very very scary but everything crossed for you. Have you been to EPU?

Thank you...booked in for Thurs morning but the nurse hinted that I could get one tomorrow if the bleeding is the same.

Glad you had good news! Gives me a little more hope.

I thought my period had started a week before I got my bfp. I only did a test because it wasn't quite as heavy as usual. Then had bits of bleeding on and off until about 15 weeks. Now at 25+2.

Of course, there are no guarantees and I wouldn't want to get your hopes up - but I guess you just can't assume anything at this stage until you can have a scan - can you get an early one or go private for a scan? Fingers crossed yours hangs on in there. Good luck!

I had a bleed at 12 weeks, it was very frightening. The gp took it very seriously and requested a scan. The hospital refused because I had a scan booked the week after. I insisted that something was done and we were able to attend to have someone check the heartbeat with a doppler. They finally found the heartbeat (the reason they were reluctant was because it is difficult to find at 12 weeks). After that we bought a doppler off ebay and we could reassure ourselves as frequently as we liked then.

Sorry should add that I have a very healthy little boy now. I really hope you will be fine.

I've had big bleeds with clots at 9, 11, 13, 14 and 16 weeks and at 17 weeks am still pregnant with twins so it is possible to bleed lots and not miscarry. Keep holding in there, it may well all be fine.

I am 14 weeks and have just stopped bleeding which in total lasted 7 weeks on and off but at 12 week scan baby was all good I panicked as I have a history of mc and bleeding went from brown to red back to brown drove me mad I have had 4 scans so far and all is good, I think as long as its not really heavy with bad pain you should be ok but I would ask to referred to epu for a scan Hun hope all is well and try and take it easy congratulations and good luck xx

yes, i did! scared the beejesus out of me.

they started me on progesterone pessaries which i've been on ever since (am 17 weeks today.)

i had a cerclage at 14 weeks which was unrelated to the bleeding, and am still pregnant.

bleeding at the early stages does seem very common. best of luck!

I had this at 6 weeks - terrible cramps after a spectacular bout of 'morning sickness' on christmas eve after in laws meal - we ended up in A&E as I was bleeding. It was awful at the time - but they took a deep swab of the blood and showed me (sorry if TMI but I think this may help others) the colour and consistency and explained that while very frightening, the pain was due to pulling a muscle from being sick AND uterus expanding. When this happens, and old blood is pushed out - the colour can change from pinkish to brown etc. Often it is mixed with normal discharge - hence a creamier, milder colour, but again, this can change depending on how much discharge you have, how much old blood is there, etc etc etc. Sorry to be graphic but i think here it is important to be detailed to help. Now 7 months in - all good so far.

On the progesterone front - I also had very low progesterone and took this for the first 3 months to help 'hold' the pregnancy. I had an early mc last year - got a faint line at first, but a couple of weeks later got period, but like no period I had ever had before, lots of clots etc, very painful and wiped me right out, and was very very different to the bleeding I had with this pg. I guess I would have been about 7-8 weeks in. When we checked my prog levels they were literally non existent.

Can they do a transvaginal scan to see what is happening?

Thanks

I really hope it works out for you.

xxx

Thank you all....I am certain I miscarried overnight last night. Still have a scan on thurs to check it's all out I guess. Thanks...what a rollercoaster! Best of luck with all your pregnancies! Never been more grateful for my little man...dragged me round the room by my finger this morning to locate toy cars which was a nice dose of normality.

I bled from last Thursday night until yesterday, like a ill period. I had terrible cramps both bak cramp & stabbing stomach cramps. I had a scan last Friday but too early to see anything so I had a full week of worry. I went or another scan this morning & there is a heartbeat, I'm 6 weeks pregnant. They can't find a reason for the bleeding, I just am but were delighted after a horrible pesamistic week :)
Hope you get the same result

Fab news!

I had a light period before I did a test and only did one because it wasn't like a normal period. I continued bleeding on and off for the first trimester, they thought he had implanted into a blood vessel.

He's now 6, utterly lovely and addicted to Skylanders.
