Nursery Furniture

I'm looking for nursery furniture (preferably white/cream), don't need a wardrobe as we have one built in and am really struggling to find a reasonably priced cotbed and drawers set. All the chest of drawers seem to be £250+ and the 2 items as a pair that i can find are £350+ which seems ridiculous!

I've looked on all the obvious sites such as mamas and papas, kiddicare, argos, mothercare, ikea etc and no luck. Anyone out there experienced the same and found a bargain? Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks.

I got furniture from Ikea, and the cotbed is from Mothercare, but I got it from eBay from this seller. They sell Mothercare returns. The cot bed I got was RRP £250, paid £90, had a few small black marks, nothing noticable, and half of them cleaned off.

You can't tell mine don't match. White is the perfect colour to match furniture up to :)

You're welcome.

Initially I was just keeping an eye out for a second hand cot bed, but I fell in love with the one I got from there! And it will be used for another baby after this, and then sold on :)

I've got my cot, mattress and dresser with changer from mothercare.

Altogether worked out less than £150.

Cot was on sale and with the mattress used the 20% off code, both worked out to £90

The dresser was down to £60 (and still is I think), got that with the code from downloading the iPhone, so worked out for £50.

Let me have a look at the website and ill get some links for you

This will give you a really good bargain with the 20% off code, call them up to see if and when it'll come back in stock:

www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Mido-Nursery-Collection/psU1181-1,default,pd.html

Alternatively, If you get the cheapest cot bed for £100 and the dresser with changer for £60, and a mattress for around £60, use the 20% off code (which I'm sure will come back), that should come to around £160 with cash back. Does that sound reasonable?

I got the 'Eric' cot in white from John Lewis - £69. Mattress is one of the Obaby ones and was £45 from Asda.

I then got a £35 chest of drawers in white from Ikea. I've also got one of those 'Billy' Ikea bookcases which I already owned - with some storage boxes on it for toys/nappies/wipes etc it looks quite sweet with the white cot and white chest of drawers. I plan to use the drawers as a changing table too while he's very little cos it's a comfortable height for me. (I'm quite small though).

Obviously it doesn't 'look' as pretty as some of these beautiful coordinated sets but I just found them so overpriced. I may get a wardrobe later on but he won't need that for a while. To make up for all the white I've gone for brighter curtains and bedding (Ikea again!). In total I've managed to sort out his room for about £200 which I'm quite happy with.

I bought adult's furniture, as the baby sized stuff was too small for the amount of clothes we bought :)

First time, I bought a white Coastline cot from Mamas & Papas in the sale, and plain white furniture (Haven range) from Argos. DS still uses it now, age 4.

This time I've bought a set of 2nd hand mamas & papas nursery furniture from Gumtree.

We already had a white ikea chest of drawers and will use that for babys clothes. We picked up a second hand john lewis change table for £15 on ebay and I bought some lovely white baskets from tesco for £11 for three to put nappies and the like in. The height is perfect for me, so hopefully no bad back trying to lean over.
We bought a John lewis Anna cot from ebay, it was brand new (surplus stock I think) for £59 instead of £115. The seller is based in London and we had to collect it ourselves, but if you don't live far they are always posting brand new ones (the seller is flogit4u). I noticed they posted an Eric cot (usually £60 in John lewis) and it was sold for £35 - so might be worth a look.

Thankyou everyone for your very helpful replies. I ended up getting an ex display east coast cotbed at a reduced price and chest of drawers/changer from an outlet shop near where I live so worked out reasonably priced in the end [busmile]
