This is the first time I am ever posting on a forum and I am really desperate for some advice.
I had my last menstruation on the 31st of December 2012 and I have not menstruated since then. Sometime in the middle February 2013 I started to feel unwell, but I have been trying to have a second child for 10 years so I never thought I could be pregnant. By the first week of march my husband and I decided to get a pregnancy test kit (clearblue digital), and the other strip type. I used two strips (all 2 the same night) and it clearly showed 2 bold lines, we were so happy and the next morning on the 6th of march 2013, I used the digital pregnancy test kit and it quickly said 3+ and pregnant.
3 days later same result, I saw my GP and she referred me to the midwives who wrote and asked me to go for a scan, during the scan the technician said she could see a gestational sac but no baby, the sac looked empty. she has asked me to return a week or two later and report to the Early pregnancy unit, she also took her time to tell me that If I felt any pain or bleeding I should go to A&E ASAP (that really scared me).
I know it might be a blighted ovum but shouldn't I have miscarried the pregnancy by now considering it is now 12 weeks and 7 days according to the technicians calculation based on last menstruation? I have not spotted even once and I still feel the nausea. I am confused, scared and sad. Can this be an ectopic pregnancy or is it a blighted ovum or the baby was just not visible. is it possible for a baby not to be spotted at 12 Weeks?

The report the technician gave me says gestational sac 15.7mm, gestational sac volume 2.0ml, sac size is approximately 6+ weeks gestation, no obvious fetal pole or yolk sac identified. ultrasound view: restricted. Since I had the scan 2 days ago I have not slept, and I keep searching the web for an answer.

Hello zeon, I am so sorry for your loss. I had a blighted ovum before DS was born and it was exactly the same scenario as you have described. I had a positive pregnancy test and had no sign of a baby at a scan.
I didn't lose the pregnancy either an ended up having a pessary to induce a miscarriage.
Have they arranged for you to go back?

Just to add I had no spotting or anything either. I still had pregnancy symptoms because the hormones were still maintaining the pregnancy.

Hi zeon

Sorry you are going through this, the problem with early pregnancy ultrasound is you often need more than one scan, like you've had arranged, to know what's going on. I've never had to do the waiting game but can imagine its just horrid.
I'd ignore the clearblue to a certain extent as there is massive variation in hcg levels amongst women.
Do you know when you ovulated?

Hugs x

Thanks everyone. I have actually woken up today an I feel much better than I have felt in a few days. I will wait for two weeks and If nothing happens I will go back for the second scan. Not sure when I ovulated as I had given up having another child after 11 years of trying. I just wish I could feel less nauseous , that way I can just pretend my life has not really changed and forget I might or might not be pregnant! I will let you know how I get on. Once again thanks very much.

Hi, I had a similar thing, twice at 11 weeks, had a scan which just showed a "sack" and no baby, it's heartbreaking... In my case I did have some spotting beforehand. The first time I needed medical intervention (oral then scrape) after a second scan showed sack still there and nothing was happening. In October when it happened again I did miscarry naturally over the next few weeks after the scan... They called it a "missed miscarriage" or "silent miscarriage" when your body hasn't responded to miscarry. Try not to give up hope... despite three miscarriages we do have a beautiful DD.
