Highlighting hair in late pregnancy? Safe?

Hello

Am pregnant with DS2 and finish work at the end of this week at 38.5 weeks. Hooray. Hooray. Hooray.

I've avoided getting my normal highlights done in this pregnancy - and also last time too - but was thinking of having them done in the week I have off work before my c-section at 40 weeks (it's being done for medical reasons but they are leaving it till my due date, just to keep me on my toes).

But...is it at all dangerous to have highlights in late pregnancy? Is there any reason I should avoid doing this? I remember how rubbish I looked in the early days of having DS1 and I'd like to have a small amount of pampering before I have two small boys demanding every second of my attention.

Forgive me for being so clueless when this is actually my second pregnancy so surely I should know a bit more about the whole thing by now.....:-)

Perfectly safe at any stage of pregnancy.

Totally fine. Had mine done professionally 4 weeks ago (at 34 weeks).

Yes it'll be fine, just take care as the colour can develop very fast or very slow for some people because of hormones, just keep an eye on colour developing, Smile

I'm getting mine done about 35 weeks. (Dad bought me a gift voucher for Christmas, bless him!). It's definitely safe but worth discussing with your hairdresser because the colour can take better in pregnancy.

Been having my done throughout. Safe as the dye doesn't come into contact with your scalp at all. I couldn't have waited as long as you, my hair grows so quickly, roots would have been sooo long!

Is fine as massage said - dye does not touch your scalp but do a patch test too. I'm 30 weeks and going to get mine done v soon (likely DC may be born early)

Thanks all!

I am blonde anyway so normally just have highlights in winter when there is no sun around. Weirdly, pregnancy makes my hair darken in general (goes back to normal afterwards) so the lack of highlights is more obvious to me now than when not pregnant.

The roots haven't been too bad till now but now I just feel the need not to feel entirely crap about my appearance when I have a non-sleeping newborn AND a non-sleeping toddler!!!! Grin

Totally safe, this advice is from years ago - I have my hair coloured and thought nothing of it. I can give up a lot, and cope with a lot - but not grey hair at 32! :-)
