Hi, I am new to this forum, but I am in need of some advice. I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second child. I have had constant nausea and some sickness for the past two weeks. The only way to stop feeling sick is to eat, but I can't face fruit or veg - only bad carbs! Crumpets, Bread, Crisps, Rice, Pasta, Potato etc. I was a normal/healthy size 12 and I have already ballooned in this pregnancy. I have a bump or is it just fat?? I want advice on how to overcome this horrible sickness feeling which doesn't require me turning to food every two hours!!! I have put on about 6lb in 4 weeks so far.... HELP!!

I had the same thing, and found that making a really chunky vegetable stew (I'm vegetarian) with carrots, celery, lentils and new potatoes helped. I had a bit of it every time I felt sick - it filled me up a lot, the potatoes satisfied my carb cravings and at least I felt I was getting some vegetables. I made a massive pot and then heated it up everytime I needed some. You can add cheese and bread to make it into a proper meal.

Also, I tried precooking some jacket potatoes and having them in the fridge. And oatcakes as well. They're not as bad as crumpets and crisps, but still seem to do the job.

Also, remember that the sickness probably won't last forever, so just do whatever you need to do to get through it. Don't stress too much. I went to Hennes and treated myself to two new winter jumpers in a size larger than normal (only £10 each!), which hide my waistline but still look ok, so I don't feel as self conscious.

Oh god me too

Toast, toast and toast Grin

I'm trying to be healthy but tbh this is not a time to worry about weight. Last time I lost it all breastfeeding so let's hope for that again!

Oh phew! At least I am not alone! I like the idea of a stew. I have some bits in the fridge I could throw together tonight.

I am so tired when I get it though. I collect my daughter (2 years old) from nursery and by the time she is in bed. The last thing I can be bothered to do is cook, but tonight I will force myself. Or hope my husband can do the bedtime rountine, whilst i chop up the veg!

Thanks for advice girls :-) and great tip about Hennes/H&M - I didnt know they did mat clothes!

Me too, it happened in my first pg too, and I put on weight at the beginning but then not so much towards the end. I figure you've just got to do what it takes to get through the first trimester, even if that is eat bad carbs every 2 hours.

I am about 11 weeks and have eaten twice my bodyweight in jacket potatoes in the past month. Luckily, the hunger/nausea is starting to subside, but I definitely have a bump and have had to break out the maternity clothes already!

Love the veg stew idea, might have to do that as I'm really craving potato and comfort food.
