Potty training

DS1 can wee on demand ... but refuses to sit on toilet, potty or stand

He gets the concept totally. Every night, we say as we take his nappy off, do you need a wee, he then pushes and wees in his nappy.

He also did a poo the other night when I asked him (just before he normally goes).

But, the idea of sitting on any type of potty, toilet (with cushioned seat) or standing up to wee just gets met with 'no no no'.

He hates pull up nappies and pants too.

Anyone gone through similar? If so, how did you overcome?

Thanks for reading.

Bribery usually works.
I use stickers for the children at the nursery where I work, but have known parents use sweets and even small toys.
This stage is quite common, just give him time.

Hiya, thanks so much for posting. I feel like potty training is about me learning how to encourage him as it is for him! It's reassuring to know it's common and just a time thing.

We've tried bribery - even chocolate, but it still isn't enough to get him to try it. He is always quite wary of new 'sensations' (e.g. swimming, sand etc), and then one day he just tries things. So hopefully he'll come around to the potty idea soon.

Thanks again for posting.
