Potty training

Do I put him in nappy for lunchtime nap?

Just started potty training this morning and realised I don't know whether to put DS in a nappy for his lunchtime nap or not. He usually sleeps around 2 hours.

I don't want to confuse him between nappies and pants - would rather deal with wet bed than that, but if nappies for nap time doesn't confuse then that would obviously be the easiest!

If I go cold turkey on naps too, any tips on emergency mattress protection as I have no waterproof sheets?

I too have just started DD this morning. Shes just gone down for a nap with a nappy on.
I think its abit too much to expect her to nap without one yet as weve only just started.

Ive told DD that nappies are for sleeping and she told me after her sleep she would wear her big girl knickers again.

Hope it going ok for you.

He adamantly told me "no more nappies mummy" so that solved that! I did find a pair of cloth trainer pants that I bought ages ago - more absorbent than normal pants but definitely pants rather than a nappy so put him in those and put a big folded towel underneath the sheet. We'll see...

It's going ok. He will happily sit on the potty and keeps talking to me about how he does wees and poos on the potty now, and immediately tells me if he has had an accident. 4 accidents and 2 successes this morning. The last success was him choosing to go to the potty himself too. So it gives me hope that he may be ready and we can do this - he just needs to notice the signals properly. He's 2.3 - a bit young I suppose, but wanted to give him this chance now as expecting DC2 in Sept so if not now then it won't be for a while!

How's it going for you and DD pigleychez?

Better than expected here today. Shes been doing the occasionally poo/wee on the potty for a few weeks but i thought id try it today and see how we got on. We havent had any accidents today but then no wee's on the potty either.
Not sure if shes holding it or just doesnt need to go?! I guess ill see from her nappy after nap time.

DD is 23mths so very young, but very smart and seems to pick things up very quickly... ie knows numbers, shapes, colours and most of the alphabet phonetically!
Congrats on the new baby coming. I have a 7 week old DD2. I know they say that you shouldnt try with a new baby in the house but she decided to move things along when she did a poo on the potty when DD2 was only days old. No prompting from us at all... Talk about timing

ime they learn quite quickly not to pee during their nap. if you are only just starting with pt try the nappy for a bit, see how dry it is!

Well done meg I am putting off starting ds until end of term so the preschool run doesnt interfere too much

I had nappies on for naps, with dd, pull up ones, as i found she would wee just as she woke up, she soon accepted pull ups were for sleeping in at naps and bedtime with no confusion

But i would press on and see how it goes

Good luck to all the potty trainers!

We started today too. DD demanded big girl pants on after we had been to the supermarket. So far two accidents, no successes. Been keeping her in the kitchen by baking and preparing dinner. She solved the will we won't we put a nappy on problem by falling asleep on a pile of dirty laundry on the kitchen floor - she has a towel under her! Am listening out for sounds of waking so I can pop her on the potty straight away. We are in Glasgow and it is horrible weather, which was exactly what I didn't want for training and I was quite happy to wait for another month as DD only 2.5. Well, we've started now ...

hello littleducks!

Of course DS decided to have a stupidly long nap today - I went to check on him after nearly 2 hours and he was dry but wet by the time he woke after 3 (!) hours. Sigh. So I think we will persuade him that pull ups for naps are fine as not really fair on him to be wetting himself when asleep.

Since had one wee on potty and one on sofa. He's done loads of wees today which is a bit worrying - maybe it is because he is drinking tonnes today (about a litre so far!!!) for some reason - but I really hope he normally has a longer gap than 30 mins between wees (and his nappies are usually dry after 60-90 mins) or we'll never leave the house ever again!

soupmaker - i woulnd't worry about bad weather. it's glorious here, but DS is refusing to go out into the garden as he is too enamoured with his potty and sticker chart to stray too far, so it might as well be january here!

good luck all!

pigleychez - one of my friends says both her older DDs demanded to potty train within a week of the new baby arriving. clearly some sort of "i'm the big girl now" thing going on!
