Potty training

When would you expect your dd to be able to wipe her bottom?

Started toilet training a week ago and - not wishing to tempt fate - it's going fairly well so far. I wipe her bottom and then get her to have a go. She starts nursery in Sept and they have said they expect the children to wipe their own bottoms - is this reasonable? Dd will only be 3 in August. Also, I use wipes if she has done a poo - do you think they will provide wipes or will I be able to send wipes in with her? TIA

Not sure about wet wipe provision, but DD at that age tried to wipe her bottom. I threw away a large number of knickers due to the raised ridge of faeces in them. DD would get distracted and want to go to play rather than attend to her natal cleft. Good luck.
(I still find the occassional pair of skiddy's due to her rush to see what's going on and she's 9.2 now)

Agree that children that age find it hard and are very easily distracted away from it anyway. I just change pooey knickers when we get home and give her a wipe then its bath time later.
Might as well ask about your DD taking wipes but it might be difficult to arrange.

DD doesnt and she is 4, toilet trained at 2, but she only poos once a day and i normally wash her bottom.

She has occassionally been at preschool and they may pass her a Kandoo wipe, the children dont have free access to these though

I think it's pretty unreasonable for a nursery to expect them to wipe themselves at 3 tbh.....I would have thought all the children would be going home with mucky pants!

I would expect most three year olds to wipe their own bottoms tbh.

I'm probably just a lazy mum trying to get out of a job, but...

I taught both my girls to wipe as we potty trained, dd1- 20 months, dd2- 2yrs 4months.

Very occasionally I wipe dd2's bottom now if she informs me that she has done 'a really massive one Mummy!' She was 3 in June.

Thanks for your replies - seems to be a wide variation in what children of this age can and are expected to do.
