Potty training

Your advice - 2.9yr old not interested

Just after some advice really - my ds is 2.9 and is not the slightest bit interested in potty training. He tells me when he wants to do a poo and will only do it in his nappy at the same place in the house and if we are not at home he will wait until we get home! I've tried to get him running around without a nappy on in this nice weather but he gets upset and has a tantrum unless he is fully clothed! He is a very stubborn child with very limited speech so he cant (or wont) tell me if he needs to go.

My question is this - do I just go for it and put him in pants to learn the hard way or should I wait a bit longer in the hope that it will all come together in a few months?

Hi there,

My DD was also very reluctant and would tell us when she had done a wee or poo, but not before. In the end we tried a reward chart system, and this seems to have provided the necessary motivation- star on teh chart for each deed done on the toilet or potty, and a present after 5 stars. Not perfect, but we're getting there.
Could something similar help? If he is very attached to his nappy I would be cautious about removing it in case it upsets him too much.
