Potty training

Refusing to sit on troilet/potty

DS1 is 2.8 and is now able to tell me that he's done a poo or wee. I know when he is going to wee/poo and have been trying to get him to sit on the potty/toilet with small seat insert. He screams and goes rigid and refuses totally running into the bedroom and trying to put a nappy on himself.

Have tried the "no nappy" thing but he tried to find one or use his baby brothers. His bladder control is fab. outside in the garden the other day he was in pants and shorts and managed to be dry for 4hrs. Was then dancing round holding his penis so was asking if he needed a wee. Totally denied needing and then wet himself.

Do I leave it or persevere with the tantrums hoping that he will eventually come round to using a potty/toilet. His brother (18months) is happy to sit on the toilet for ages although does nothing and DS1 does see me and his dad using it so he knows what the toilet is for.

We are at the same stage and we have been for ages now My DD has just turned 3.

I left her potty in the living room for a few months now and gradually she's getting more interested in it. I decided not to push her at all because she was getting so upset about using the potty but like your DS she is withholding her wee for hours.

I'm going to leave her another few weeks but I want to take advantage of the summer so might try and encourage her again. I think the gentle approach is best all round - like you say, it is awful when they are getting so upset.

I had the same problem with my DD. We started PT 2 weeks ago and it has been going up and down but making a very impressive progress at the moment!!!! I used the " 3 Day potty training" by Lora Jansen and I have to say the best part of it is the mentoring she is providing. My DD didn't want to sit on the toilet and Lora suggested that the problem could be that she doesn?t like the potty/ seat and we should have a party in the toilet and my daughter DECORATES it with stickers /paints on it . It worked wanders and now she happily puts the stickers on the seat after she does a pee/poop and goes on it with no problems. Try ,it might help you.
