Potty training

7 days in and no success...honestly, what would you do?

DD is 2.5 and we are day 7 of potty training. I started because she was showing all the signs of being ready and was taking advantage of the good weather. Also, I wanted to do it before we went on holiday at the end of June.

So, as I said, day 7 and I have had no success . She's chosen her knickers, her potty and a toilet seat. I've made a sticker chart, even resorted to chocolate button bribes to no avail. Basically I started off offering the potty/toilet lots and managing at times to persuade her to sit on it while we payed games, stories etc but she has never managed to do anything. More often the pattern is that she will sit for 20 mins and 5 mins after getting off she'll wet herself. She spent the weekend in no knickers in case that made a difference but no. So I've backed off a bit and just try to make sure the potty is to hand wherever we are. And now today she is point blank refusing to go near the potty or the toilet (to the point of tantrums) and inevitably we've had more accidents .

Of course I wasn't expecting to have it totally cracked by now but I'm really beginning to feel like she's just not getting it at all and that perhaps I've tried to do this too soon after all.

Anyone had an experience like this - I mean nothing achieved in 7 days!! Is it going to be really detrimental to her to put her back in pull-ups for a couple of months and do away with potty/toilet seat to try again later in the Summer? Or am I considering giving up too soon?

In addition we are flying to Scotland this weekend and staying with friends for 4 days. What a nightmare if she's still like this? What's best to do?

All pearls of wisdom are welcome, I'm getting so fed up, we haven't been able to go out anywhere either! Honestly, what would you do?

I'm also 21 weeks pg with dc2 and find this so exhausting but really want to crack it before I've got baby nappies coming out of my ears!!

Help!!

give her and yourself a break! give up, and my goodness don't be doing this if you are going on a weekend visit!

my dd was 3 yrs and 4months, and we cracked it in about 5 days.

Back to nappies- she's not ready. Try again in 3 months. Not worth a moment's hassle for anyone.

agree with the other 2.

my DS3 has just turned 3 (yesterday) he's not trained yet - we've had a couple of cracks at it - but he's just not quite ready yet.

Going to give it another go over half term, but ime from DS1 and 2 (the latter of who I let do it in his own time, DS1 I "forced" at just under 3yrs old) it's much easier to wait until they're really ready for it.

Give it a break for a couple of months. It was the third attemp with DD (iirc) when she finally cracked it.

Agree, have a break.

My dd was nearly 4 when she stopped wearing nappies in the day and she wore night nappies till she was 5.5. It was no fun! But I thought you would like an extreme example to make you feel better ;)

I certainly hope my ds, who is 3, will be a bit quicker than his sister...
