Potty training

When and why did you start potty training?

Dd1 is 2 in 3 weeks. Everyone is asking if she is potty trained yet and looks at me in a weird way when I say no!

She is advanced with her speech and is tall for her age so maybe people think shes older then she is?

She knows when she is going to poo but I have no signs that she is/has weed until I change her nappy.

I know I could do it now but I dont want to start and then stop.

I have a 3mo dd as well.

When did you start training and what you do it when you did?

My DD is 3 in June, she has taken an interest in the potty/toilet since she was around 2, but its only just recently in the last couple of weeks that she has wanted to start wearing knickers.

It seems to be going relatively easy at the moment, perhaps given that she is that bit older.

I had the same with my DS, he was 3.5 before he even wanted to get rid of his nappies, but again was relatively easy as he was older.

I wouldn't stress about doing it too soon tbh.

Only reason I am very happy my DD is now wanting to wear knickers and not nappy is that she will start nursery school in Sept.

Good luck

Hi Rusmum - sorry to chase you, but do you still want the wraps?

I started at 2.5 because my dd wanted to and nursery said they'd do it

Thanks all, Im thinking of holding off for a while longer.

I think I will wait until she can tell me when she is going to go IYSWIM.

DS was 2.3 and sort of did it himself. The weather was hot, he was naked and I just left the potty near to where he was playing in the garden.

DD was about 2.4, although she does use a nappy still at night at 2.9. Her language wan't that well developed but I could understand what she meant and she quickly learnt to say Pot when she needed the potty.

In my opinion, and it is just my opinion, if you know when she is going to poo you need to sit her on the potty straightaway. I wouldn't let this window of opportunity pass.

Leave off her clothes when you are in the house and garden and she should soon learn to wee in the potty.

Its perfect potty training weather right now too, you don't want to leave it until the winter when they have about 5 layers of clothes on .

Good luck.

I would start with putting her on the potty to poo and leave her in nappies -- you have your hands full as it is! She will catch on as typically wee comes out with poo.
