DD1 (3 years 2 months) has been out of nappies in the day for 8 months. Just over a week ago we decided to go for it at night time. She had been having dry nappies on a fairly regular basis and often woke to go for a wee in the loo and didn't want to wear them anymore (DH told her when she was 3 she didn't have to wear nappies anymore....).

So this is what has happened:

Fri night - dry till 615am when she wet the bed awake, said she forgot she didn't have a nappy on
Sat night - woke midnight did a wee, dry in morning
Sun night - woke 1ish went for a wee, but bed wet in the morning when she woke
Mon night - wet bed at 1045pm, dry in morning
Tues - wet bed in middle of night, then dry in morning
Weds - woke 130ish went for wee, dry in morning
Thurs - went whole night till 715 and was dry
Fri - wet bed around 1ish, dry in morning

so....do I put her back in nappies, she will put up a big fight i know. just have no idea whether this amount of wet beds is normal at the start ( i am imagining it probably is). is the fact that she can go the whole night encouraging and i just stick with it and she'll get there? she insists on still having milk in the evening but i give this to her at 515 now 2 hours before bed and then no other drinks (unless she says she is thirsty and then she gets a little water).

Many thanks

I say, stick with it.

Whydon't you try a reward chart fo dry beds? Just make it a really positve thing if she manages a dry bed.

If possible, don't go back. Can you just deal with the odd wee?
Really encourage lots of wees before bed, leave potty close, no fuss if accident happens.
Great Kudos when dry bed? Good luck!

When dd and ds first came out of nappies they were completely dry with the very very odd accident. DD was just over 3 and ds was 2 1/2. I didnt take the night time nappy off until they were having dry morning nappies for weeks. I would maybe give it a few more days and if you are still having that amount of wet beds then I would go back to nappies for a while longer. They need to produce a hormone that suppresses uring production in the night plus be able to wake when they have a full bladder. If they cant do both then they will not be dry at night no matter what you do.

pull ups for bedtime?

Not quite nappies, mine called them bedtime pants, encourage het to keep them dry.

Pampers ones had Dora on them and stars that dissapeared if the pull up got wet, imo was better than the hassle of clearing a bed.

am really torn....
thanks everyone.

the wet beds are a bit of a hassle as she seems to maange to wet the duvet and cover as well so lots of washing.

have been rewarding dry beds and we go for wee before bath and then again when we brush our teeth and after story before the light goes out.

am going to give it a few more nights and see what happens.

with this hormone thing (which i have to admit being ignorant about), out of 8 nights she managed two nearly 12 hours stints without a wee and 2 nights where she woke and did a wee and then stayed dry so does that not indicate she is capable, if she wasn't producing this hormone at all surely she wouldn't be able to do this?

Aaaah, luv, she's ready, but it is not a straight road! Sorry, no use for you but she is getting there(12 hour stints High 5)
Keep on doing what you are doing, and as has been said on this site many times 'this too will pass'

Thanks, i am feeling much more confident about it, the last 2 nights she has gone the whole night 12 hours and been dry in the morning!!! Which means of the last 5 nights we have only had one wet bed which was Friday night.

Thanks for listening to me.

She sounds ready and pretty reliable...and she wants to be out of nappies so that is a good thing...

Just try and make your bedding easy to wash!
