Ds very upset when using potty at home

I don't really know if this is a common thing that boys go through, but ds is very upset that his penis gets hard when he sits on the potty or toilet. We say things like lets sing a song or have a chat and it will go down by itself, but by this stage he is usually so upset that it doesn't console him. Playschool have said that he is using the toilet now, but to be honest his pull-up is usually very wet when he gets home, so I don't know how much he is going there. Does anyone have any advice? He is 2.10 yrs
