What things did you find useful for potty training?

What things did you find useful when potty training your DCs? DD is 2.2 & so far, resisting the potty, so we've not pushed it. She is starting nursery in a few weeks & I believe they want her trained by 3.

We have: a potty (which she loves as a toy but won't sit on without a nappy - total meltdown).
Toilet trainer seat & a step. Hasn't tried the seat yet but absolutely loves washing her hands!
Portable potty & some liners.

I'm assuming lots of pants and additional trousers/leggings for a few weeks or longer.
What books do people recommend for potty training girls? I've seen the Pirate Pete book, is there a girls version?

Anything else that may help? Sorry but I don't have any mum friends in RL that I can ask.

The very best advice I can give is to wait until your child is good and ready - stuff what nursery say. Children are ready at different ages and while it is possible to potty train a 1 year old, say, it's a hell of a lot of work.
I waited with my 3 until they showed an interest (age varied from 2.5 to 3) then they were dry and 'trained' within literally 3 or 4 days.
And never bothered with a potty, I wanted them to be happy using a toilet from the start.
