Potty training

Help? Have not got a clue where to start!

Hi,
DS has started to show signs that he no longer wants to wear a nappy (not wanting a new one on, taking his off as if it was a pair of pants) and is very interested whenever I/DH go to the toilet. He is almost two and for some time it has been obvious when he's about to poo. He is pretty dry at night, then wees loads when he wakes up.

So - is he ready to start? And what do I do? Any links to good books/websites? Would getting the potty out so he can sit on it when we go to the toilet be helpful? He seems very keen to copy us. I am a SAHM and could take the potty out and about with us wherever we go, so no problems there.

Well, we got it out and I've read what I can find. He's interested in the potty and quite liked the idea of sitting on it when I go to the toilet. Our stumbling block is that he found the hole in the middle scary so wouldn't actually sit on it. I doubt that aspect of things would change with age (cautious child!), so will work on that and see how it goes.

Let him sit on the potty in his nappy first.

At the same stage with you. I wish my daughter would tell before she goes toilet in her nappy, so than I could take her to the toilet to flush it down the loo.

I'm potty training my 20 dd ATM. She doesn't ask to use potty she just goes. I spent a whole week in house naked and putting her on when wee/pooing and it's just clicked. Try it out. X

With dd at about 18 months I bought a potty and just let her play with it downstairs along with her toys and just casually started talking about it and what it was for.
Then after a while I started putting her on it just before bathing her every night. Some nights she had a little wee some nights not. When she did I made such a big fuss.
She just thought she was brilliant for using the potty so started using it on her own. This progressed to no nappies around the house just proper big girl pants then all day out and about then nights too.
What I would say is once you've decided to do it just go for it if you are confident then your dc will feel it too and make sure you go way over board on the praise!!
Good luck Smile
