Potty training

DD has decided she wants out of nappies...at 21 months... any advice?

DD has rather caught me by surprise - last week, out of the blue, she started signing for a bum change (something she's never done) after every single pee AND removing her nappy entirely if given the chance (getting her in one can be an epic battle too).

We've had a potty in the house for some time but I wasn't really pushing the issue; now however it seems a good point (i'm going through nappies at a rate of knots!)

I've ordered a step and loo seat for one loo and a combined ladder and loo seat for the other as I think she may take to one or the other quicker than the potty (she likes the bathroom and copying me!)

We go away on Sunday for a week so I was wondering how and when i should make a serious go. I was thinking, no clothes on the bottom half, lots of juice - and regular trips to the bathroom.

Does anyone have any experience of similar and / or advice?

I was fully potty trained at 21 mths when my sister was born. Things we're different then though ;-)

I never did the no clothes thing as then you need to retrain with clothes on. Take regularly to the toilet and lots of praise for successes. Ds was day trained by age 2.

I trained dd at 21 months... She had great speech and understanding which I think helped.. I took her shopping to show her and choose some knickers which I think helped?

Sounds like you're dog the right things.. Think it might have taken longer with her than my other dc's as it is quite young but I say go for it!

I found Gina Fords potty training book quite good. Couldn't stand any other books of hers but this one is quite short, a good daily guide if I remember rightly?!

Good luck!

There's never a perfect time, my daughter finally got it when my son was born. I felt really rough (bad water infection) and could barely lift her to change her nappy. I kept asking her if she needed the toilet and it clicked better than it had on previous attempts. I would suggest trackie bottoms so that they are easily pulled up and down by kids and a pair of crocs because it will be a nightmare constantly washing shoes and waiting until dry. Crocs rinse and dry quickly and are good to go again.
