End of day 3 of potty training ds (2.8). We started by offering stickers as encouragement if he tried sitting on potty, except now he keeps sitting on there every couple of minutes pretending to wee in order to get another sticker. So far we have had zero hits in the potty & lots of accidents in his pants. He has been coming to me as he starts to wee but i've not managed to get him there on time yet.

Not sure if i should change the goalposts & only offer sticker if he actually wee's? Just dont want to discourage him from sitting on it altogether! Wwyd?

We did stickers only if DD actually weed and did big praise if she did. She then got a prize for 5 stickers (so apx 1 a day). It didn't seem to discourage her from trying.

Does he have a routine of peeing? My dd quickly got into a pattern of wees, apx every 2 hours, so I got used to when I needed to be asking her a bit more regularly whether she needed to go. That reduced the number of accidents quite dramatically. After about 4-5 days she was much better at recognising when she needed to go in time to actually get there.

Good luck!

Hiya thanks for your reply. Little monkey has a bladder of steel & can hold it from waking until 1-2pm but then he spends all afternoon leaking all over. & not telling me. & if i reminded him to go he'd just say no.

Attempt abandoned today & back in nappies. He really wants to wear pants but he's just not quite there. We'll try again in a couple of months & i think next time we'll take your tip to only offer a sticker if he actually wees!xx

We stopped after our first attempt and then restarted a month or so later, was much easier second time around.

Hope it goes better next time!
