My DD is 2.8 and has been showing an interest in the toilet and the potty for a while now, we have been reading Princess Polly etc and she is very excited by the potty, wearing pants, using toilet paper, flushing the toilet and washing her hands. The only thing she doesn't do is the actual act of weeing and pooing!

We have had three attempts all led by her wanting to wear pants that I have given up on after a day/day and a half as she simply has had too many accidents and I didn't think she had the bladder control needed, she now knows when she is weeing but doesn't seem to know when she needs to go.

Once again she has refused to wear nappies this morning and only wants pants, but when I ask her if she will do her "business" on the potty she says no. I keep asking if she needs the toilet and she always replies no, I have just now persuaded her to sit on the potty watching my iPad, it's been over an hour and a half since I removed her nappy, I just know as soon as she finished watching peppa pig she will get off the potty and immediately wee.

I just don't know what to do, how long should I give it before I give up, and if she doesn't know she needs to go does that mean she isn't ready? The last thing I want to do is push her into it and end up with issues but I feel like its been taken out of my hands, I don't want to force her back into nappies and put her off pants.......I'm in such a mess, and tips greatly appreciated!!!

In my opinion (I am a childminder) I would stop and re-try in a few months. Will she wear pull ups if she is refusing nappys? When the timming is right and the child is ready you can have toilet training done in a few days, try any sooner and its long drawn out and stressful for all involved.

Mine is the same. She talks the talk, but she literally had no idea how to wee. Hmm

DS could just do it. I never had to train him as such, the boy was dry by 2, so this is a bit of a come down Wink

In the same boat, ds ruined me because he just got it and was trained in 3 days. Dd is defying me at every step and she's 3 since the 1st of Feb Sad Wants all the knickers, I've bought the books etc but still when asked does she want to wee says no. I'm fed up and on the verge of putting the pull ups back on her, but I'm stopping myself.

I keep telling myself she won't be in nappies when she's 14!!! Or will she????!!

My DD is 2.10 and the same. I think she's afraid to try because she doesn't want to fail. I'm going to leave it for another few months despite the judgy silences from my parents when I say it.
