Potty training

Giving it a try, but are mostly accidents normal?

DD is 2 1/2 and can hold on for 6h and tells us when she's done wees and poos. Seems keen to 'be a big girl' when asked so started Wednesday pm with no nappies...

Yesterday we had 1 wee in potty and 2 wet accidents (I think she's refusing to poo...) She will only sit on the potty if persuaded with a story or video on my phone, and that doesn't always work.

Obviously she gets praise and stickers and buttons when she does get anything in the potty, and seems proud of herself. She just seems to be resisting.

Are mostly accidents for a few days then they 'get it' normal, or is the potty / toilet resistance a sign we should hang on?

Am 19 weeks pg...

I think accidents are the norm ime. I would advise anyone to give it at least 7 days before deciding they aren't getting it provided the child is the appropriate age.

First few days were accidents 6 or 7 times a day for us but it was different by the end of the week. Good luck.

Unfortunately DD doesn't drink much as has a massive bladder so I'm not sure we will have enough accidents for her to get the hang of it.

Not sure I've chosen the right time though as we're supposed to be out for a few hours tomorrow :( And she's at the CM Wednesday and Thursday...

Ime a child who is really ready doesn't need constant persuasion with videos/books/treats to sit on the potty

Maybe at first, but they should be fairly happy to sit on it for it to be stress-free

Ds is 2.7, is happy to wee on a potty but looks at me like I'm barking if I suggest doing a poo on it Grin

The last thing I want is to start him getting stressed/ withholding ... so am going to wait another couple of months

Just persuaded her to sit on the potty as poo seemed to be imminent and she's proudly presented the full potty to daddy. Unfortunately she's done another 2 wees on the floor...

So difficult with such conflicting advice to know whether to abandon or just kept going. I think we'll try a few days at least but if she doesn't start to get the fact she needs to head to the potty we won't wait a whole week...

We're on day 3 with my DS and still having VERY little success. He tells me when he is doing a wee or poo by which point we can't get pants off in time. he refuses to wear no pants and I'm starting to despair. He's 2.9 and I'm sure he's ready as he's showing all the signs. So no advice but sharing your pain! Keep us posted.

Totally normal at this stage. Give it longer for sure.

First week or so was like this with Dd. We're just about getting it after 3 months!

First day we got through 11 pairs of knickers + tights.

You know your Dd best, but I will say be prepared for it to take ages, and I wouldn't want an unreliable wee-er and a newborn. Good luck.

Just one little accident today (day 4) but DD hangs on til the last second when she cant hold it in... Was asking for a nappy or pants (as thought pants would work like nappy!) but has more or less stopped this afternoon. Just trying to be really chilled and positive with her and DH and I agree she will get there, which we werent sure a few days ago!

It's knack ering though...

Good luck everyone!
