DS1 is almost 2.7 and we started potty training him on Sunday. We realise he is still very young, but he is in nursery and also we are very close to this other family with two girls who have been toilet trained for a while and he is always very interested whenever they go to the loo. We had a few false starts but on Saturday, we were with our friends and he insisted on poo-ing in the toilet, which he did. Sunday morning, we brought him to the loo after taking off his nappy first thing in the morning and he poo-ed so we thought why not? Sunday was a bit of a disaster, lots of wee accidents. Monday was better, got through most of the day with only a small accident but towards the end of the day, he had a few tantrums and literally had like 3 accidents in half an hour! Yesterday he was in nursery and they said he had one 'proper' accident and two where he wee-d over the seats of the toilet. Today, he did poos and wees all in toilets or potty with no problems so we are very happy with him BUT only if I keep bringing him to the toilet/potty kinda every hour or so!
So what do I actually do next? I don't think I can rely on him to tell me he needs to go and actually, I don't think it bothers him that much to be wet! He is still quite little afterall... Of course, we made a big fuss of what a good boy he is, how grown up he is, how much his big boys' pants like being dry etc and he loves the attention. But I can't keep bringing him to to loo every hour! Or do I? When I asks him if he wants to go, he will say no but if I take him, he will wee anyway. One of my friends said boys don't realise the need to go till they are 3.6! Really? I can't do this for another year!
Any advice for those who have gone through the same experience? Thanks! :)
