Potty training

DD does not seem to be aware of needing to go

On day 3 of toilet training with DD (who will be 3 next month). She is keen to succeed, happy to sit on the potty, excited by her star chart, etc. But she doesn't seem to have any idea of when she needs to go. She will sit for ages on the potty, saying that she wants to earn her star, and then get up and put her pants back on, having not gone, and ten minutes later pee in her pants. Or she'll sit for ages on the potty and say she's not had a pee when we ask, but when we look it turns out she has had a pee. We've had several successes so far, but really just because she sits on the potty a lot and happens to go at the right time. DH thinks she's not ready yet and we should wait longer - but I feel at this age she really must be! Any suggestions? Is it too early to be despairing?!

I work in a nursery and do lots of potty training, and i would say it is unusual for your dd not to recognize the feeling of going or needing to go at her age.

I would persevere for a week or two, but also got to the gp (just to check everything is working), i assume she has no issues actually going and you are not concerned on that side of things. Most girls are potty trained, before three but i have seen a few in nappies past that age.
