Redness in genitals in first week potty training

We've just started potty training DS (27 months) and, amazingly, it's going very well [touches every wooden object within reach], but today (day 4) I noticed that his penis, scrotum and the immediate area around them seemed quite red. It's very localised - there is a clear 'line' at the top of the area dividing the red skin from the unaffected skin.

He says that it doesn't hurt and I've assumed it's probably just as a result of him having cotton fibres (rather than nappies) against that area for the first time? Or I guess it could be that he's had a couple of instances where he's done a small wee in his pants and not told me so there has been wet cotton against it for a short while. Obviously we are changing his pants ASAP whenever he wees in them!

Has anyone else experienced this? His skin isn't particularly sensitive though he does get the odd patch of eczema (curiously it's flared up again at the same time). Very grateful for anyone else's tales of similar!

I've put Savlon on it and am kind of assuming that it will just go away in time - is there anything else I should do?

Try washing his pants in surcare and don't use fabric softner - he may be sensitive to your washing powder
