Potty training

is it normal to regress?

DS (3y4m) has been potty trained since mid June, and for the last couple of weeks I've no longer obsessed over taking spare clothes everywhere. He was maybe having one accident a week (if that) when very tired.
Last night he had a wee in his pants. We then put his pull ups on (bedtime) and he weed and pooed in them. Today I've taken him to the toilet as we've been going out etc, just got back, he hadn't been for hours so I knew he'd need to go soon. He weed on the sofa and pooed in his pants :( When I ask him why he says he doesn;t know.

Why is he regressing? Is this normal and what can I do?

Yes both of mine regressed after a while. Few weeks with ds1, couple of months with ds2. (althouth they were younger than your ds - ds1 was 2.4, ds2 was 2.1).
I think its when they stop THINKING about it all the time but haven't got the hang of recognising their own body signals yet.

Don't make a fuss about it, just be ready with the mop for a few days Grin

But, your son didn't wee all the time you were out. Then he probably couldn't hold it in any longer and got taken by surprise.

thanks for replying, suppose that's good news :)
yes, he's always (since being 'trained' been good at holding on...in fact i don't think he's actually had any accidents out of the house/nursery, apart from one at mum's
...no that can't be right....
but if he was holding on, surely that means he does get it!! I'm way past reminding him (unless we're going to be away from a toilet for ages) he's been telling me for weeks now .
hope he gets it again soon
