My 3-year-old son is doing really well with potty training at home (3 weeks now) - I've been really fortunate; however, he won't use the toilet/potty when we are out which results in him wetting himself multiple times. We're travelling to my parents tomorrow which will take about 2 1/2 hours door to door. Should I put him in a nappy just this once or put him in his trainer pants? You know what trains are like - there aren't always toilets in each carriage and they're horrid anyway. I'm panicking!

My 3 year old DS is exactly the same. Great at home but gets totally distracted when we're out and just won't tell me he needs to go. Doesn't even tell me when he's done it!

My parents will be taking him to Ireland in a few weeks, to a family wedding, on the train and the boat. I can't go as i'm due DS2 at the same time. I'm debating whether to put him in pull ups for the journey. I think it's going to be a lot of hassle, even if he does tell them he needs to go, with train transfers and all the luggage etc. You're right the toilets are absolutely foul on trains too.

I have the opposite problem-my daughter is three and a half and is obsessed with going to the toilet lots when we are out. Five imes during a meal out last night....I suppose its better than damp pants.

KitKatSE1, yup i know how you're feeling. We're at the exact same stage with ds 2.5, tbh if it were me I'd put on the nappy. I know some might say it will put him back a step but on week 3 when you haven't been successful outside yet at all then I hardly think it'll have much impact...I had a hospital appointment this morn and kept ds in his nighttime one as it was so early, minging yes, but I have more important things to worry about atm!

Put it this way, I very much doubt you'll look back on doing it in, say, 3 years time Grin

Ha, totally jinxed myself now by saying DS was great at home. Half my sofa is now in the washing machine because he was too engrossed in Ben and bloody Holly's Little Kingdom!

MY ds is very wary of public toilets. I have found that biggin up the toilets aas soon as we get somewhere works well so when we go to a friend's house "and X has such a lovely little toilet so when you need a wee you can go there it is such a great toilet" and similar when arriving in town "The toilets at the library are brilliant" and so on. For quite a long time he wouldn't go on them at all and wet himself loads until I managed to persuade him to do wees onto a nappy. I'd put the nappy on the floor and he would wee on it. Anything is wortha try!

The babychange at the bullring take some beating. They have glitterballs. Te UCO's favorite though are Sainsbury's with its seascape of NEMOes...(A nemo is any bright fish...its a triumph of branding)
