DD having problems

My DD of 6.5yrs is wetting herself more and more frequently during the daytime, to the point where we are having to send her to school in Pampers. We have tried everything, and the doctor has seemed convinced that her bladder is small for her age and that she will grow out of it for a year and a half. Washing smelly knickers is the last thing I want to do of an evening, as may seem obvious, but it is becoming a weekly chore.
I have wondered if she becomes a little involved in what she is doing-she is very creative, and is rarely seen at home without a pencil in her hand- and just doesn't realise that she needs to go. I had hoped that this phase was long gone, but it seems to be coming back now.. any tips?

She has no night time problems as far as we know, apart from the occasional bedwetting if she has had too much fizzy drink the night before, at a party or something.
