Potty training

night nappies - when to stop bothering?

ds is 3.3 and self potty trained (hallelujah) about 6 weeks ago. Has night time pull ups. Since then, he has probably had 1 wet nappy per week in the morning, though I suspect that this may have been sheer laziness or unwillingness to get out of bed as soon as he wakes ups (he stays in bed shouting for me as if there is a magic force field around it preventing him getting out Grin).

I can survive on short hours sleep but suffer with broken sleep so am really reluctant to experiment. ds also gets very upset if he has an accident (rare).

Should I leave him in night nappies until he is consistently dry for weeks at a time / taking himself to the loo as and when he needs? Or do I just ditch them when the packet runs out, expect a couple of wet bed accidents but a quick result?

Potty in his room?

I would go for the second option, as he seems to be sorting g himself out. I don't see why being nappy-free he would need you during the niht if he doesn't ATM. Leaving him in nappies may become a reason for him not to bother continuing to develop his self-control. I've seen my dc backslide that way.

2nd option. My DD had REALLY soggy nappies in the mornings, but had been day trained for about 9 months.

We just took the nappy off and had a week of wet bed one morning, dry bed the next. Was about to give up when I was recommended putting a potty in her room.

Hey presto, no more wet beds. After 2 weeks I got rid of the potty and we've never looked back.

Now if I could only get DD2 interested in potty training.
