Vegetarian/vegan vs meat eating - how to feed your child

I'm only 13 weeks pregnant, but this is a conversation the boyfriend and I have started to have.

He's a veggie (almost vegan), I am very much not.

Are you a mixed diet couple as parents? How did you decide how to feed your child/children?

I am veggie, DH is not. Children are veggie so far (7and 4). W agreed that as I would be doing most of the weaning/ food prep, we'd go with it. So far, so good. They may change their minds once they're older, their perogative. Difficult though ,at parties, friends houses. There is a great deal of misunderstanding and many think I am doing them out of something good. They are healthy, growing and developing well. Hate people making a big deal of it.

Sorry, feels good to get that out in the open!Grin

I hate people making a big deal of it too! My partner is also dairy intolerant, which you'd think means I'm bringing Stalin to a dinner party the way people (over)react.

In our house, he does most of the cooking because a) he's better at cooking the food he can eat, and b) I work longer hours. But obviously when I'm not at work, I'll be home more and cooking more. At the moment I eat meat at lunchtime, and sometimes add meat to the meals he makes, but other than that eat what he eats. He's ever eaten meat in his life (vegan parents), and I'd never ask him to prepare it for me or anyone else, so I suppose that if he's cooking we'll be eating veggie, if I'm cooking, the kid will get added meat/cheese/fish.

That sounds like a healthy mix to me. Mine have all the veggie substitutes and things like quorn mean that they can have a realistic alternative. Was v careful with things like salt levels etc when they were babies, and still keep an eye now.
