Mixed - really good when she's good, but a few v long screaming fits too. Just put her down again so another fit going on at present. Hoping it will only last a few mins before she settles.

How long will anyone else's baby stay up in between sleeps?

Boy has days when he sleeps all the time he's not attached to a breast, and days when he will be awake for 3 hours in a row.

Still no name Jas Grin sure you'll think of something soon!

Soz I've not been on this week ladies, been trying to use spare time keeping dd1 happy and so far its worked....will have to master one handed typing soon!

Has anyone else had really horrible afterpains, about a week after the birth, as I was in tears with some last night, rang mw and she said, painkillers and ring doc if not better after 2 hrs.....I felt better enough not to ring doc, but still don't feel right today, am hoping not an infection of some sort.......on the plus side my tummy is looking a lot flatter today, so mw could well be right.....ruined yesterday evening tho, and we had BIL and SIL around as well......

A bonus is dd2 has turned out to be an angel, is feeding all evening mind, but then is dropping off between 12 and 2am and sleeping for 5.5-6.5hrs, which is a godsend, as I can operate on sleep like that! She's also a 10x better feeder on the boob than dd was, so, so far no bother there either, phew......

3k Hope you start feeling better soon hon {{{Big Hugs}}} and well done for getting help.

Tabs, your not a failure hon, some babies just take longer to work out than others.....hope you have a better night tonight {{{{Big Hugs}}}}

Ixel, its not too bad coping with the two, I've just managed to juggle with 3 this weekend as ss has been down, and he's been an angel too, phew! I've just been making loads of dd1 time when dd2 is asleep, and we've been reading books or watching the Barney Video she chose as her present from dd2!

Thell, don't know if this is any help at all, but swaddling is working for dd2 re her basket, as she wasn't keen at 1st and I was thinking, oh no! but after swaddling and comforting the 1st night for an hour or so, she got used to it and now happily nods off, so long as she's full of milk!

Hope everyone else is doing ok and will try and check back in tomorrow, will be easier as dd1 nursery day!

Awww, aren't you nice Grin

13 boys, 13 girls Shock!!! We did even out!!!

Frizbe - my afterpains died off after about day 8... they had been full blown gaspy pain killer needing ones, then they suddenly went poof.

Much better day here.. back to more normal feeding pattern!!!! Just done his second bath (I have been soooo lazy with him - DD was being bathed constantly... he gets the essentials washed and that about does it!! Blush)... DD "helped" (swished water round his feet, passed me the towel) - it worked really well! Got him out, added some water and chucked her in Grin

Evening girls,

I have a tmi problem - like you Flame, I seemed to stop discharging and now I have started with sometimesa having a bit of blood and sometimes clear stuff again, difference is - it smells funny Blush please tell me this isn't an infection. Other thing is I have started getting period pains over past couple of days - could I get af so soon? Could this be the smell change?

Really peed off tonight. I had arranged to go out with a friend for an hour, dh has been at a mates all day watching the footie - I asked him not to have too much to drink as he will be in charge of ds tonight. Well, friend has cancelled on me which is probably a good thing coz dh is pissed Sad He claims not to be but I can bloody tell and it really winds me up for him to think this is acceptable. He is not really drunk but has had more than I would deem appropriate to look after a 4 week old baby! We have just had the biggest row Sad

Anyway, hope you are all ok.

Angry at your dh, Chloe - sounds like something mine would do.I know when he's had a drink, he would sleep through a crying baby, so I wouldn't leave him in charge either,

No real afterpains at all for me, but tummy is still going downSmile.Might even dare to weigh myself at the clinic next week. Just thought... maybe the painkillers I was taking for the infection masked them(although didn't get bad ones after the girls, either).

I'm still getting some discharge (14 days today). When I had the infection, it was very obviously pus and yukky stuff (sorry for tmi), but now brownish.
I think if you aren't breastfeeding, af can return immediately though, so that could be it, Chloe.

Can anyone tell me when I should expect ds to focus his eyes on me? May be a silly question, but he looks all around him, and often goes cross eyed, but almost never seems to look directly at me...should I be worried?

Report
Chloe55 · 13/03/2006 09:01

That's exactly it Jasnem - DH would (and has) slept through ds crying when he has had a drink - luckily I have only been upstairs on the 2 occassions it has happened before so I have heard him myself. I am a bit calmer today but still am gonna have it out with him now we have slept on it.

As for focusing I don't think ds started properly focusing until the middle of about week 3 so I'm guessing the non-focusing at 2 weeks is the norm.

I thought that about af and not starting again whilst bf, but in theory I have still been bf albeit reduced. I haven't come on yet though and have had on/off period pains for a few days - I used to get period pains and within 2 hours would have come on so I'm guessing it might not be af. I think I'll give it another couple of days and go to docs if I am still a bit worried.

Thanks for that flame, I'm guessing as I'm feeling lots better this am, that it was after pains, just in a rather big bout!

Have just managed to get dd into nursery, although left her having a major paddy......guess she's going to have to get used to leaving her baby sister with me.......Sad but sure she'll be ok once she calms down, nursery staff have never seen her have a paddy before, as normally very good for them, so they were all shocked too!

Hope your all ok today

Chloe Angry at your dh for you, hope he sees reason today!

Morning girls - a new thread - hurray! Grin

TMI alert - I'm still getting a bit of disharge and dd2 is over 4 weeks. However, I now think I have got thrush because of having to wear pads all the time etc and I think dd2 has got it as well. Seeing the HV this am so hopefully she may confirm - seeing the gp this pm anyway.

Back to 3 days of just me and dd2. Last Thurs and Fri were my first days with dd1 and dd2 by myself - and went better than I thought - dd2 even got fed regularly!

BF going well although I am a bit 'wooden' in having to hold my massive J cup boobs when feeding - don't think I will be doing public bf just yet. Wink

DD2 is being a star and feeding quite a lot during the day (still having to wake her to feed as she is another sleepy baby) but only needing to be fed once during the night - last night I fed at 1.15 and then not until 8.10 this morning - I can cope with sleeping patterns like this! Smile

Anybody any idea when the feeding starts to reduce - all the guidance says between 8-12 times to week 6 - but what is the pattern then?

Hope everyone is O.K - will catch up on the posts. Smile

Chloe - you have to be bf fairly intensively for it to stop your periods, so that could still be it .(I fell pregnant with dd2 while bf dd1- no bottles at all, but had started to wean onto solids!)

Even with constant b/f some women still have periods.

I feel horrible :( It only really hit me yesterday just how much I had always pictured myself with two DDs (my family only seemed to produce girls... everyone is stunned by this little guy). I knew that the concept of a boy freaked me out, but not how much I actually wanted a girl... I suddenly had an image in my head yesterday of my two little girls colouring together, and realised it wasn't going to happen. Hormones kicked in and I cried Blush. Don't get me wrong, I love him with all my heart, but I think I'm going to need some time to change my way of thinking and sort of grieve for the future I'd pictured. I feel sooo horrible, like I'm rejecting Emrys in some way. I always thought that I didn't think ahead that much, but it turns out I did - probably picturing my own childhood. I don't have any real reference for opposite sibling relationships (all the families I know have at least 3, mixed sex), so I'm using Charlie and Lola as my plan for the future (and deliberately blocking out all images of Max and Ruby because she's a little cow WinkGrin).

I now probably sound insane!

I'm pretty sure I would have felt the same if DD2 had been a boy, Flame. I really wasn't ready for a boy for some reason. I was only just prepared this time!
I have a younger brother, and we coloured in together, if that helps.Smile We also fought, but I think same sex siblings do that too!We are close now, and I can't imagine having a sister.

In a similar vein, I am still having to fight back the urege to hit everyone who seems to think that we only had a third to"get" a boyAngry Much as I love him, I would have been just as happy with another girl, too.

I was up most of the night, as Boy has a cold, and can't breathe through his nose. I had to hold him sitting up most of the night, and then his temp went up...what can you do for a baby this young. I've got him a doctors appt this pm, to see if they can help (despite being told by the receptionist that he can't see a dr until he has a name Angry)

I can't believe the doc was being funny about seeing your ds Jasnem just because he doesn't have a name! (I think it's hilarious you still call him 'the boy' though).

I think I would have been upset if I'd have had a girl Flame, firstly because I had prepared for a boy and secondly because most of my family, cousins included, have always produced boy then girl. I loved having a bigger brother (still do) and although when we were very young we fought all the time by the time I hit about 14 we hung around together all the time, he was like my protector in some ways and now he is one of my best friends. So, I can imagine if you grew up with a sister you will be having similar feelings about your childhood as I do about sharing mine with my bro but whichever way, your kids will love each other for a few years then hate each other then undoubtedly love each other again Wink

Everyone in the world thought this'd be a girl, and I was sooo shocked when it was another boy. But I'm actually quite relieved, as I dont really like girls that much Grin

Putting him in a sling to get stuff done is failing miserably... he cries and cries till I give in, take him out, then he curls up on my chest and sleeps happily. Any other ideas?

I'm so nervous about tonight... dh at work, so my first bedtime juggling two of them.I'm tempted just to let ds1 run round till he crashes out...

And a quickie, which may have been discussed when I wasn't around.Where's the best and cheapest place for breastfeeding tops? I need a shop to try them on, as I hate returning catalogue things - too much hassle. The Hennes in Brent Cross had none, which was my best hope!

Jasnem - Maisie has had a stuffed up nose for over a week now - got some sinus drops which really helped but there is not a lot more you can do as everything is for babes over 3mths. Your doc will hopefully be able to make some suggestions Smile
Seems mad that the doc won't see boy until he has a name given that he doesn't have to be registerd for 6 wks - surely there is every chance that you might need a doc before then Shock

I initially thought I was having a boy as I already had a girl - thought Mother Nature would be evening out so to speak - so was surprised when found out having a girl. Part of me was disappointed as it is highly unlikely that I will have a third (esp as I am 40 next year Blush and now have had 2 'interesting' deliveries) but as the pregnancy went on and now I have dd2 - I am delighted to have darling dds! Grin (Saves on clothes shopping as well Wink)

FWIW I have a younger brother and we always played together - didn't make any difference that we weren't the same sex.

Saw the HV this morning and dd2 has put on 71/2 ozs this week so is now 9.10 and a half - yay - my boobs are working! Smile HV thinks that dd2 does have thrush so just as well we are going to the GP this pm.

Was thinking of doing some ironing but am just too knackered - anyone else feel the same? Smile

:) Thankyou all - you have made me feel much better.. much less hormonal than I was this morning too, which has probably helped.

Chiropractor is going well - DS is still having problems turning his head, but after the last treatment he was at least latching on properly - it was just that I could see him hurting and he sort of bobbed on and off lots as his neck was aching. We had another session today, and had perfect feeding from him for the next feed - I now feel more empty on that side than I have in ages, and my friend says I look wonky Blush.

No advice on breastfeeding tops.. I just wear the same tops I've always worn and lift em up or pull em down - I keep a muslin about for modesty if I need it.

I love reading about "Boy"... I have called DH "Boy" for years now (he wasn't impressed when DD picked up on it for a few months Blush), and it feels nice to be reading about a boy again Grin (I am sane in RL, really I am... my posts make me look more bizarre than I really am... I think...)

Ixel - the best thing I found for getting stuff done when I first had DD was one of the swings you can buy (ours is a Graco one)... she would sit in it happily for long enough for me to do a few bits. Not got round to picking it up from my mum's yet to try DS out in it....

DS has been weighed at baby clinic today and is now 11lb 1oz (put on a pound in a week and half) While there i asked about his constant screaming after feeds she said to try dentinox (we've tried infacol with not much change to his screaming) and if that has no results see GP. Someone mentioned reflux on another thread so i've been researching that on the net and he does look to have some symptons of that so really don't know what to think is wrong with him. So i'm gonna try dentinox for a bit see if that helps because hv also said what we describe could also be colic.
