Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

Hello there! That's lovely that title, thank you Is it life generally been keeping you busy?

Vin's pretty rotten still but he kept down three out of six feeds since i posted last and has slept well. ra-ra to calprofen. he seems to be able to keep it down, and it really helps his sore throat. he sounds so amazing at the moment. sort of a combination of foxy with his low raspy noises and so sad as he can't produce his higher noises at the moment.

join me in my morning MN chant: goooo tooooooo sleeeeeeeeeeep tired little man, goooo tooooooo sleeeeeeeeeeep tired little man.

Hehe mb, I am wishing ds2 to go to sleep now. He's been fed and I'm hoping the crying is just tiredness so hopefully he will be out for the count in a bit. I have just had to lower the base on his cotbed too as the rolling over is about to lead to him being able to push himself up on his hands and knees. He looks really low down in it now but it feels safer to me.

I have been busy with general house things and the last few days of the holidays too. ds1 goes back tomorrow so I will get some peace then! I think that I will end up having a trip to lakeland for some freezer containers as I have just pureed up a load of stuff for ds2 but realised that I have not got anything to freeze it in!

Speaking of babyfood, I would like to recommend these . I ordered some yesterday afternoon from that website and I had them by 9.00 am today which is pretty good service I think. I am road testing them later when ds2 has his solids so will be able to find out if they do live up to my expectations of them.

Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks for the new thread Bagpuss.

Sorry to hear Vin is ill Merryberry.

Can't remember when I last posted, must have been before Christmas. Had a good time this year as no one was ill and dh was off work all the way through. New Year (or Hogmanay as we call it) was tiring. I didn't get home till 6.30am!!! although we did all fall asleep briefly (we were at neighbours) except ds1 who managed to stay awake all that time! There was a party at the village hall beforehand with disco, food etc till about 2am... getting too old for this kind of thing though.

This year I want to spend more time on myself which hopefully I can do once we get the social services extra help sorted out. I need a general 'makeover' ( hate that word but you know what i mean) - hair cut and complete new wardrobe. And obviously get more done on the house (dh's job) but I did get my bath at last- hooray! dh is busy adding in extras like cupboards etc. Wow cupboards!! Sorry things like that excite me.

It's a bit late but here's a cute pic of ds2 in his Santa outfit.

hi all,

hope vin is better mb & ds2 went to sleep bagpuss. truly brilliant photo eulalia - what a smile!

we're all fine. ds back to nursery & dp back to work tomorrow so it's only dd & i - i'm rather looking forward to it . in the past couple of weeks dd has really started to take an interest in manipulating objects & seeing what she can do with them - screams of delight when she manages to turn on ds's small irritating robot which sings! she has also started to move towards things with intent, falling over on purpose...

weaning is going well. carrot & ginger soup for lunch, & bolognaise sauce for supper. only tiny tastes of all of these things, but she seems to be enjoying them. must buy some of that organix porridge for breakfast.

january is making up think of holidays atm. we've booked a week in sicily for dp's 40th in feb, & are going to devon with the inlaws in august.

i am kind of in denial that i'm going back to work next month. was the same with ds. i know it'll be fine really but i don't like the thought of it....

Is it next month HC? Well you're doing the right thing not ferreting yourself with anxiety about it already. I have to work damn hard to keep the thought out of my head and enjoy the days here. Oh no! And there goes my cinema buddy HC. Boo!

Vin is still unwell but I've got the hang of catching baby sick and clearing his nose now (don't ask me to do both at same time please). Best is his voice is back a bit so I can understand him more like usual.

Better go be RL constructive while he sleeps. We sign new place's lease tomorrow and get removals quotes in. Expect to move next week or week after. Could I be anymore relaxed about this? No! Then I don't have to do much this time, just hire packers and cleaners and removals guys. What a bloody nice change.

hello everyone, I am so annoyed because I can't keep up with all the gossip as I am now a stressed out working mummy with no home computer still- I feel all left out! Hope you are all having a great start to the new year- and everyone seems busy weaning, which we are just tentatively starting with dd- she is loving petit filous at the moment and we are getting her on baby rice tomorrow. I only have bits of magazines and books to read about it so hopefully will take lots of advice from you all. Apparently the Lorraine Kelly book is very good for recipes- has anyone else tried it?
Apart from weaning, dd is just about over her nasty virus which has held her up for about three weeks- so we are back to her giggly, happy self again, and she seems intent on sitting up, rolling and generally is a lot more engaged once more, although she is now waking up every hour after 3am... hopefully the food will help when we get into the swing of it.
Anyway, hope you're all well and now I must go as the Wine Buyers are opening some samples up for tasting. It's a hard life...

at wine buyers daf!

I have the Lorraine Kelly book. dd never really liked the recipes much tbh. Now if you want to have a real guilt trip on preparing baby meals then Annabel Karmel's your woman . Her website is here and has some recipes etc. I have her book Feeding Your Baby and Toddler which I have found good for ideas although I have never followed it rigidly. Hope work is not taxing you too much daf, don't worry about being left out - we remember you!! .

my boy's top three fave meals: baby cauliflower cheese, butternut squash gloop and mashed banana. recipes on request though number 3 is just a banana mashed up in a bowl, once or twice a week cos apparently they can get bunged up on it.

Annabel Karmel is a scourge of lazy slobby mummies and guaranteed to make you feel inadequate

LOL mrsd! I have to confess that my mil bought me that book when ds1 was only hours old . I was getting stick about three months ago about weaning ds2 so now that he is happily eating baby rice and pureed pear with the rest of them maybe she will now leave me in peace .

OK, could someone please tell me that their child isn't rolling over or sitting up so I can stop fretting....

She is giggling and likes to be held in a standing up position, and is getting to grips with elementary Latin.

Or we'll have to defer her place at Westminster

Oh, lord, sorry bad thread title then! Well, ds2 isn't really sitting up properly yet but can hold his head up really well when lying on his tummy (apparently this is really important for developing the muscles for sitting etc) and has been rolling for a while now. I have taken away the bouncy chair because I think that it was making him lazy . So we have been doing sitting up practise all day - I will keep you posted. If it makes you feel any better he doesn't make many different sounds yet which I worry about. Can't really remember what my other two did but think dd was quicker at sitting than ds1, but she did spend a lot of time in the playnest thingy that we have. I am trying to stay calm as it is still early days yet and after all they all get there eventually don't they?

how big was your baby at birth? ds2 was 7lb 11oz

mrsdarcy · 05/01/2006 19:59

Hello Illiana. My DD was 8lb at 38 weeks. I also have 2 scrumptious boys. How old is your DS1?

Sorry to have introduced a paranoid note to proceedings. We have a new round of hospital appointments starting tomorrow (4 in 4 weeks ffs) so I need to coach DD to make sure they don't give us any more dates for the diary! "One more sit-up, baby...I need more sweat..." etc

Hope Pinkmama is ok. And where is Belo?

hoxtonchick · 05/01/2006 20:12

dd is sitting up, has been since 5.5 months just like her big brother. however, she's never rolled. he didn't either, 'til about 10 months, so i'm not worried.

i have had a brief domestic goddess moment in the kitchen. cooked dd lentil & carrot mush with onion, garlic & stock tonight which went down a storm. so i've divided the remains into 4 pots & blended brocoli, cheese & bolognaise sauce into separate ones. into the freezer & they'll keep her going for weeks. hooray.

still a month left for cinema trips mb! i've got my eye on brokeback mountain & matchpoint at the rio. can't remember the dates, but they're both this month. when my laptop is back from the menders (AGAIN), i'll e-mail you.

sorry! hope the appointment goes well mrsd, sure it will. and hello liliana. my dd was born on 29.6 & was 6lbs11 at 38 weeks.

i spoke to pinkmama the other day & she's fine. i will hassle her to post here!

has anyone started thinking about the next size car seats yet? i have no idea what dd weighs, but it must be more than 9kg, & she can sit pretty indefinitely. i'm only thinking of it as we've just moved ds into a booster seat, so if i move dd into the stage 2 carseat i can get rid of the baby one. i have a pregnant friend who is going to be soooooooo overwhelmed with all our baby stuff .

Report
Bagpuss30 · 06/01/2006 10:06

Morning .

mrsd, I'm sure dd will be fine . These milestones are only a guideline after all. Good luck with the appointments too.

HC, I have been thinking about car seats a bit but only because I am getting really fed up with strapping in the baby seat we have. ds is not sitting properly yet and is about 18.5 lbs I reckon so I would have to have one of the larger rear facing seats but I'm not keen as it means that the other seat we have (which dd is using) would end up being spare. We had to replace all our seats 2 years ago after a motorway smash so I am reluctant to spend more IYSWIM. My current plan is to stay as we are until ds2 is stitting well and then move him to dds seat and dd can have ds1's seat. I was going to put ds1 in a booster cushion but I think that we will have to buy a new high back booster for him as he's no where near 22 kg yet.

Welcome to MN Liliana, my ds2 was born on 4/4/05 and was 9 lbs 5 oz at 40+3 . Our stats are here if you want to take a look.

Well done on the domestic goddess moment HC. I am just cooking some carrot for ds2's lunch - a bit boring really but anything's got to be better than baby rice.

Right, I am off to peruse cool baby travel gadgets and eco disposables now as we have booked a trip to Center Parcs in March .
