Good to have you back Rodeo

I always know how old Jess is as its 5 days more than Natalie!

Hi Rodeo - good to hear from you! and glad Jess is doing so well. Bought the much-wanted vari-flow teats -had forgotten what they were like, and hope I can manage to locate correct sucking strength in the dark (ooherr, sounds a bit rude!). Have been a bit worried again about feeds as Libby has been bringing up whole feeds on a daily basis now (usually one a day), but I so well that I don't think it's enteritus, and certainly not reflux as there are no other indications. Just dread that feeling it's all going to come up (particularly when feeding in bed!)Think she may just be a sicky baby, so not too concerned, but will mentin it to (nice)HV next week. Our poor carpet is certainly suffering though!

Hello all, just to say hope you all had a great Christmas, and were not too bogged down with nappies! Our first one with ds was great - but also lucky as we had lots of family to help out with the little one.
We are planning a quiet New Year - staying in doing the feeds and nappy changes! Maybe watching a film when the babe lets us!
Will hopefully get more time to chat in the New Year - but until then, here's wishing you all and your new babes a wonderful 2006, may it bring everything you all desire.

Morning girls,

Just a quick note to wish you all a very Happy New Year and to thank you all for your cyber friendship over the last 11 months.

Twinkle hope you have a great birthday too. Glad you got back safely from the NE it looked a nightmare yesterday on the news.

Diege you should be so lucky!!!

Bob you can also check to see if you have a Childrens Information Service in your area, run by the Council it can provide you with a list of all your local groups.

We're not up to much this evening a fews friends are coming over for a few beers and a bite to eat, Ben's best friend is coming over so they will play until the start to fight and then it will be bed time for both of them and if Thomas is on form he should yell right through the chimes of Big Ben [grin}

Have a good one all and I'll raise a glass of something nice to you and all your gorgeous babies at midnight.

Speak to you in '06 Beks

Morning!

Hi Brownychick! Glad you had a lovely 1st Christmas with Thomas

Wow, what a lot of lovely babies!! 35!! Well I think 34 because Flutterbee has returned to the December thread - me and Nova did the same to the Oct ladies (but they were v. nice!)

Nova, haha - I also know that Natalie is 11 weeks today! Does she still come into your bed or has it stopped now? Jess seems to be a constant fixture in our bed (so much so me and dp have to do the deed elsewhere in the house! ) but I don't mind anymore - last baby and all, got a bit sad about it last night, she's growing so fast! But I must remember not to baby her as she grows up!! She seems only to be waking once now in the night around 4ish and then about 7 which seems to be the night though it's still so dark! She has a 6 hour stretch now at night which is lovely but it's the getting her to sleep which is the difficult part.

Not sure about tonights plans. We've been invited to a friends party where the children (about 8 of them) 'sleep' upstairs - yeah, right!! But as I'm on antibiotics with a grumpy baby I'm not too sure. Also we'd have to walk back with the children in the small hours and it's soooo cold!! But then again it's only one night in the year - maybe I should stop being so miserable!!

Mum's cooking New Years Day dinner for us tomorrow, we've always done it at home but the amount of pots to clean now is mountainous!! Santa unfortunately didn't bring me a dishwasher And it's so nice to come back to a tidy house Saying that though me and my sister always do the kitchen at my mum's but it never seems as bad at other people's houses - maybe I should become a cleaner...

It's my leg's 2 year anniversary this morning of it getting broken! Got kicked in the leg while I was out on a New Years Eve ride, I am now banned from riding on New Years Eve now

Right enough of my waffle, I've got to get to the butchers this morning. dp wants a haggis, not for me though I'm afraid, may get steak for the rest of us (and then start a semi-serious diet on Monday! Who am I kidding?!)

Have a lovely New Year all if I don't get on later! Any resolutions? Mine are to be more patient and to be a nicer and kinder person!!

Thanks Rodeo - it was strange but nice - next year will be even better, as the magic of Christmas really starts to take effect!
This may seem strange, but having come into the thread and indeed MN so late on, I feel a bit out on a limb - don't get me wrong, everyone is very welcoming and friendly, but I seem to have missed soo much that I can't quite keep up! Wasn't even sure I'd joined the right thread - picked this one cos Thomas was born in November - was that the right reason?!

New Year's Resolutions - hmm - not sure it's worth making any, always seem to have given up before January is over! Not to sweat the small stuff is always a good one, but after a few sleepless nights, this is not always possible! To be kinder and to get out for a nice long walk at least once a week (me and exercise have never been very good friends!).

Hope you all have a great one, whatever you are doing.

Just a quick one to wish everyone a very happy New Year!

We're spending the night in staring at our precious (but slight cranky) little boy and hoping he'll let us sit down and eat the venison stew I'm making for tonight's dinner - probably not! Might have a bit of bubbly to bring in the new year and we're hoping to start a new routine with DS where he goes to sleep before 1:30 am. I'm not convinced we can make it work, but certainly worth a try ...

A quick one from me too, to wish you all a very happy new year - here's to us all 'staying together' throughout 2006! .
Beksmum: all I'm interested in at the moment is sleep .
Rodeo: be miserable and stay in - the walking home bit would spoil it for me! We're staying in and watching 'Little Voice' with a Quorn stir -fry and bottle of bucks fizz (anyone else addicted to Quorn? If they ever find out it's dodgy I've had it .
Twinkle: welcome back from North East - have been feeling a bit nostalgic about our bumps - am I the only one? Maybe to do with pile of newborn stuff that I can't decide what do do with. We said 3 was our limit but never say never!
Brownie!: I had a longish break from mumsnet for personal reasons, and felt a bit of a fraud coming back, but didn't worry that I'd be ostracised (which I wasn't) as everyone is so nice. No-one keeps a count of the posts we make (I hope!)so don't feel left out .
See you all next year!

PS: I so love my new variflows no puked up bottles so far today!!!!!

Happy New Year!

We had a lovely evening at home and really enjoyed the fireworks in London - even if we were watching them on the telly. It's so exciting to think about all the things Nathaniel will do in the next year - 2006 is going to be great!

So here's our little problem (which I feel a bit silly complaining about as N still sleeps through the night). Since Nathaniel was 3 days old we've had him sleeping in his cot, but in the last 4-5 days he won't go to sleep in the cot so we're still trying to get him to sleep at 2 am. As soon as we put him down he starts flailing his arms around and crying and I have to comfort him for ages before he'll start to settle down. So last night we put him the pram (at 2:30 am) and he fell asleep right away. We think he doesn't like the largeness of the cot and wondered if there was something we could put around him to make him more secure. Anyone else having similar problems? I've also posted on the sleep board.

Well gotta run as hungry boy has just woken up ...

Happy New Year all, Thomas stayed awake to celebrate with us last night which was lovely and Ben and his little friend eventually fell asleep at about 10:30pm so thankfully he wasn't bothered by the fireworks going off around us.

We had a really nice night in with friends, dh made a curry and the drinks flowed, I even managed 3 alcoholic drinks although the first one did make my eyes swim a bit as I'm so out of practice

Diege hooray for variflows, well done you!

LilJ, Thomas isn't too sure about his cot either, the first night he managed to get out from under his blankets and got both legs stuck through the bars .
So last night when he wouldn't settle I rolled up a small bath towel length ways and laid it in a curve behind his head so that it literally just touched it and then it went down the sides of the cot so that when he flailed his arms around they touched the towel too and it worked a charm as he believed he was in a smaller space. It didn't stop him escaping from his covers but I'm considering getting him one of those sleeping bag things to keep him warm.

The other thing I did was to unroll the towel slightly after his feed and laid his head on it so when he was a bit sick all I had to do was change the towel rather than the sheet, you could do this with a face flannel too.

Browniechick don't worry you'll soon catch up with what's happening as we're all going through the same things at the moment and if youwant to know a bit more about us all there was a thread in the antenatal groups bit which gave the November mum statistics - stay with us you'll soon get toknow what we are all like and we're a friendly lot really.

Right best go and get ready as off to the park in a minute to blow away the cobwebs, hope you're all enjoying the 1st day of 2006. Beks

Happy New Year's Day! . Sounds like you had a lovely night Beks, lol about alcohol ; I only managed one glass of bucks fizz myself and handed my second over to DH!
Lil: not sure this will help re: sleep issue, but I find swaddling helps to make them secure; I'm using the underarm swaddling in day time for naps, and at night we have a baby grobag, which I use with a lightweight sheet over the top tucked in to sides of cot, secured with rolled up towels down sides of cots (spunds more complicated than it is!). The room is very cool, and I also keep her vest off and use just a sleepsuit, in case of overheating. Another tip (from HV) is to put moses basket into cot for a few nights, so they can adjust. Good luck!, esp. after experiencing good night's sleep previously!
Well, have put off much-promised 'crafts' with dds (horrible gluey foam finger puppets - thanks MIL!!. Talk later,
Diege.

Just a quick one-handed typed message.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!!

Diege, hope the place isn't too messy with glue. As long as the kids are happy!

Lilj, I use the swaddling technique on Ella & its a godsend. It makes her feel cosy & secure when she's falling asleep & it stops her waking up with flailing arms halfway through her sleep. I use a cot sheet so it's not too warm. I was told many years ago that swaddling gives the equivalent of 2 blankets, in terms of warmth, IYSWIM.

Beksmum, know what you mean about low alcohol tolerance!! What makes it worse for me is that I'm so thirsty with the BFing so even 1 glass of wine makes me feel even more dehydrated.

Rodeo, how did last night's celebrations go? Was it boring watching everyone else get drunk?
So far, we've managed not to succumb to having Ella in our bed. There ain't much room! She's in the moses basket at my side so I don't have far to go. Having said that, when I feed her at 7-8am DP is usually up so I feed her lying down in bed. We then sleep snuggled up together for another few hours which is wonderful. When I had DS, we co-slept till he was 10 months old & TBH I was mighty glad when it stopped! But good luck to you!!

Browniechick, that sounds like a good resolution to have a long walk once a week. It's hard when the weather's bad though, don't you think?

Well, took Ella to see GP as (I think) we both have thrush. He was absolutely useless & would only prescribe canesten cream for her bottom. He didn't seem to think my breast duct pain was anything to worry about. WTF does he know about breast ducts??!! I'll go back to see the HV on Wednesday & see what she can do. She looks like a bolshy mare so fingers crossed.

Had a busy day last Friday. Took my DS & DP's DD to the cinema between feeds (tricky!) Whilst we were seeing the film DP had Ella & returned her once it was over so & could rush to make the GP appointment for her thrush. It was a really tight schedule which caused a certain degree of anxiety...made worse by the accumulation of sleep deprivation. To cap it all off, I nearly knocked myself out with the car door. I now have a rather fetching bruise on my forehead.

Anyone else watching Gone With The Wind??

Report
browniechick · 01/01/2006 17:19

Thanks for all your words of support and friendship - I shall certainly stay on this thread - and perhaps have a peak back at the antenatal thread to try and play a bit of catch up! (thanks for the tip!)

No haven't been watching Gone with the Wind - actually managed to go out with the pram for a walk - only for 15 minutes over to my grandparents, but at least it's a start.

Yes, it could be hard to get myself motivated with the cold weather, but really must try and stick to my plan. Have got local postnatal group on Friday, so will definitely be making the effort at least once this week!

Have decided that the New Year will be the start of us attempting a routine with Thomas. Am going to try it and see how it goes - plan is bath around 6.30, then upstairs in his room to bed around 7pm - am going to try not to play and talk to him too much in his room after this point so that he can learn bedroom is for sleeping, downstairs is for playing. Not sure how it will work - but we'll give it a shot!

LilJ - don't have the same problem as you, but can empathise. Thomas sleeps in his moses basket in his cot (and has done since day 1!), but he will shortly have outgrown it - I know he is only 5 and a bit weeks old, but seems to be growing at a rate of knots! I have started putting him in his cot for a few minutes each day - so that he gets used to the space. Have also got a sleeping bag ready for when he does have to sleep in there proper.

Anyway - Happy New Year to all speak soon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL NOVEMBER MUMS

Aren't we lucky!! I saw myself on video over christmas and i caught myself gazing at Finn with a soft whimsical eye -

double never thought i would do this but DP and i have been flirting with the idea of having another baby !!!!!

it has been good to have some online friends to travel along with, although i do feel a little bit guiltiy that i drift in and out of the thread.

any new year resolutions mine are

  1. like LilJ try to get finn into some kind of routine. (pre-kids i hated routines and was irritated by parents who used the 'excuse' of their children's routines to manipulate pl.ans their way

  2. firm up/tone up. i'm 18lbs up on my normal weight, plus i was 7lbs overweight to start with....so that would like to lose 20lbs or just firm up what i've got so i look better

Does anyone fancy a november mum meet (with or without baby)sometime soon? perhaps afternoon lunch on a saturday? I don't mind organising it. what do you all think?

i am now about to open mini bottle of pink moet -ah ha good present from a very good friend - a 4 pack of mini champagnes. ooh life has upgraded since my student days when a four pack would usually=heineken.

When you say a Nov mum meet - does this mean you are all realtively local to each other? Or do you all travel to a somewhat central location?
Am new to this game, but am getting the hang of it, slowly!

if people are intereseted, and to see if it's feasible we could add location to the baby name d.o.b. and weight list and take it from there
....

but definately do a meet within london area as i know quite a few nov mums within easy-ish reach

or do a south and north meet...as i know someone is in the peak district (can't remember who though....? that way everyone gets to meet some november mums?

where abouts do you live brownie?

Just a quickie while my bottles are cooling to say hi and to wish Twinkle a happy birthday for tommorrow! . Jenjam - we started to think about a second baby when dd1 was but a few weeks old, and was pregnant when dd1 was 5 months . We did plan this so that they would be close, and it has been one of the best decisions we've made. Pros and cons of all age gaps of course, but it's worked out really well for us .

Otherwise will just have to make do with cyber contact for now - eventually may manage to post or view some piccies of the little ones, which will kindof be like meeting.
