Don't worry about it, it'll happen when it happens. My ds started walking with help when he was 18 months. He went from crawling to walking holding onto furniture to walking almost on his own in the space of 6 weeks.

You hear of some children who are walking by their first birthday (apparently I was one) and others who still aren't by their second. If you're worried talk to your health visitor but by and large I'd say there is no hard and fast rule for when they should be walking and it depends on the individual child.

Also bear in mind that when they do start walking you have to bolt everything down or put everything 6ft off the ground that you don't want handprints on, ie photos, video recorders, valuable faberge eggs etc.

yep. Took 2 steps one week, 5 the next and then he was off. Took the 5 steps at 14.5 months - same as I did!!!!!! Has now discovered running . Dh is made up as they are off to buy DS's very first pair of wellies on Saturday

My pal is a paediatrician and she says she only wants referrals if boys aren't walking by 18 months and girls by 2 years.

My DD was born 20 Aug 04 and took her first steps 3 days before her birthday. A friend of hers is a day older(now almost 17 months) and is still not walking either..they are all so different!

My daughter is 17 months today and not walking.
Haven't been concerned in the slightest as my nearly 14 year old was a very late starter and is exceptionally gifted athletically.
I'm due my next baby girl this month (by c-section) so the only downer is that I'll be having to carry 2 babies here and there.

I know, and I think this is a fantastic age. My dd's speech has rocketed, she's started to make sentences (well hmm, 2 word sentences ) both in French and English. She's constantly talking, is very curious about everything and mad about Noddy and the Teletubbies ! She's just adorable !

I can't belive DS is nearly 2! He's such a little charactor.

He's walking/talking and occasionally pooing in the potty!
He is excited about his new baby in mummy's tummy and hug's my belly goodnight!

He can say quite a few words but some of them dont quite make sense yet!

He's an animal lover we got 4 chickens and he calls them his 'girls' and feeds them everyday.

How are your little ones doing?

Highlander · 13/08/2006 20:31

DS is a right old chatterbox and can repeat pretty much everything we say. Yep, that includes bugger, bloody hell and shit. Not so good now he's in nursery 2 mornings a week

Well, any signs of the terrible 2s then ?!

My dd is definitely not the quiet little baby she used to be. She's still a good nature but knows what she wants. On the language front she's made such good progress. She likes the company of other children and has stopped napping in the afternoon (hurray )
