Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Still here :) just about made it through last night. Baby didn't settle until 4am, and not helped by our 4yr old DD getting my DH up every hr from 1am. Vtired hse today. Limping on with BF but supplemental feeds with formula in a syringe helping DD up nappy output :o

Waiting and waving at bumpy and summerpixie
Night 5 was best so far. Baby slept mostly in mosses basket not in my arms/chest and settled between 2hrly feeds so I got more rest. Couldn't sleep too much but felt little more rested. BF getting easier now milk is in. Managed to feed off sore nip once with shield and handexpressed on other occasions. Feel vproud of myself when I can fill 10ml syringe with golden mummy milk :o mad really but gives me confidence to keep BF going.
Awaiting MW now to do heel prick test, weigh baby &take out my stitches (not looking forward to that bit! It hurt last time)

Didn't need stitches removed as got desolvable ones yah! Didn't realise last c-sec 4yrs ago had to have them removed. Baby weighed yesterday put on 40g :-) and we had vgd night she slept for 2*3hr chunks between feeds so I got nearly 6hrs of broken sleep my longest stretch in 6days. I even made my DH a cuppa tea this morn in bed &got my DD1 ready for preschool. But back having rest in bed now :-) also first night with out formula supplement just BF with shields :o feeling gd about that. Can't quite believe how easy this baby is compared to first DD. Must be because we both feel so much more relaxed as parents and at moment baby happy sleeping in her basket whereas with DD1 she scream for hrs it felt like.

Hello ssmile and thanks for the link 100years. I'm home now and limping around because of the episiotomy stiches. Managed to get what feels like quite a lot of sleep last night as was co-sleeping with Lo on my stomach. Milk hasn't come in yet, but he seems to be feeding a lot. Going to a breastfeeding session at the children's centre tomorrow to see if I'm doing it right. Nipples are ok so far, but I'm slapping on the lansinoh after every feed, so fingers crossed, they'll stay ok. Waving to everyone lurking and looking forward to see you on here soon!

Hi bumpy hope your milk comes in ok and nipples stay in tact. I couldnt wear a bra until today (day 6) as my boobs were so big n sore wouldnt fit in a 40gg! [Blush] I used savoy cabbage leaves straight from fridge last time to provide relief in bra sounds mad old wives tale but it did help :-)
Hope your BF group helps, its really gd to get support in early days as first 4-5wks can be tough. I taking it one day at a time. I did get in tizz earlier as baby wanted to feed every half hr from 11am, then did 4poo nappies in a row, I was tired &hungry and just gave her to.my DH who ended up giving her 10ml formula as I fell asleep on the bed for an hr! Felt more human when I woke up and baby contentdly asleep whilst my DH playing on his computer.

Hiya. Seems pretty quiet in here. I had a huge clot drop out today (tmi). Freaked me out a bit but mw said it was fine as long as there wasn't loads of them. DD has been screaming quite a bit today as she's getting hungry and my milk hasn't come in yet. She's sucking getting nothing then falling asleep then waking up when she realises and screams the house down!
I'm hoping my milk comes in tomorrow to solve some of this screaming. I've been finding it hard to sit down as well due to stitches and the awful bunch of grapes down there Sad. Whilst I'm moaning.... I still look 9months pregnant. I think I'll have a lot of work to do getting back in shape although I put on less weight this pregnancy than with ds. Hope you're both getting restful nights. X

Hi summerpixie hope the milk arrives to calm babe. My SIL had one those donut cushions to help her sit down on.
Gosh started writing this 1.5hrs ago then baby had fest of feeds, nappy changes &being awake I think her longest alert time yet during the day. So much for my much needed daytime nap whilst my DH has taken DD1 out! I still feeding but worked out how to do mumsnet on phone :o whilst she on boob. I tried to feed her off shield earlier but she refused despite getting milk she spat me out.

Forgot to say my tum really started to shrink yest day6. I'm 1.5stone heavier than prebaby but not too worried. In my head I've decided not to worry about it till after Xmas whenittleone is 4mths. Last time I think I tried too quickly post c-sec and up with problems and 9mths Physio. So being vcautious this time plus will have to do walk to school and back daily which will be 3mils in total should help once I stop eating the bourbons :o

Day 8 managed first trip out with babe. Planned to leave at 11i left at noon :o.
managed a slow 10min shuffle aroundocal harbour then yum hot chocolate at local pub/cafe. Felt odd to be driving a buggy again as its different one to old one we had 4.5yrs ago. Nice to chat to friendly barman and 'toast' our family of four. But the exertion left me knackered and promptly had an hrs nap when I got home. Babe was great as I didn't feel comfortable BF in public yet lucky to she big feed before we went out, we were back bang on 2hrs later so I fed her again at home.
Milk being gushy now so have to keep interrupting feeds as babe overwhelmed so can make a 20min feed last 45mins. Sure babe will get hang of it as more of a routine settles in &milk supply even out.
How you doing bumpy?

ssmile, how did you manage to breastfeed and use the phone for internet at the same time? Any tips would be helpful. Milk came in today (day 4) but was having difficulty with the right boob at first. Community midwives were excellent at helping me to get the correct latch. I'm due another visit tomorrow. The engorged boobs were a surprise as I didn't expect it to hurt in the armpits Shock! DS is doing well, but I don't think it's really going to hit me that I have a son until at least his due date. Still shocked at his earliness as most of the women in my family have gone overdue.

DH has been excellent and really enjoying it. I hope he'll be as good for our subsequent LOs (can't believe I'm already thinking of the next one Grin). I've only had to change one nappy so far as he like to do it. We're getting plenty of sleep for now, so that's nice as well. SIL who has 5 children came over today with food and did loads of cleaning and chatted with me about the labour, how I'm feeling etc. I feel so lucky.

Stiches are healing nicely, acording to the midwife, but bumgrapes are enormous and horrible. I have to sit on two hard cushions, one for each cheek. Any idea what's the best way to get rid of them summerpixie? I'm using a lot of Anusol, but am eager for them to go sooner rather than later. Hope you're both well and catching up with sleep.

xx

Glad milk coming bumpy it should ease off in next few days but my cabbage trick worked last time! Not been so sore this time but feeding every 2-3hrs round the clock +few cluster feeds which means I not getting any milk build up at mo. I got mastitous with last DD at 9days as ducts got blocked really want to avoid that this time.

I sit mostly in old rocking chair upright back with pillow on my lap, rolled up muslin under boob hold shield on with hand nearest head side babe feeding latch her on with other hand and off she goes. Then I balanced phone on the pillow behind her and scrolled with free hand :) i found if I was distracted she feeds longer as I relax because I'm distracted. Works for me but prob not everyone. It's easier now milk in and I not sore anymore.

Day 10 we just achieved a double 1st BF with out using using a shield on left side and fed lying down :o I v proud of myself. It's only little steps but each day I feeling more confident with BF. Got to try to feed off RHS nipple next with no shield then I will no I've turned the corner.
Hope you both summer and bumpy are doing ok and each day is getting a little easier x

I will persist though maybe once she not so hungry to latch with out shield.
hope u r enjoyin a sunny day too.

Congratulations on the BFing ssmile! It must be so hard, especially after a c-section when you're not very mobile. I'm still not able to breastfeed lying down and have to sit pretty upright, especially when DS is on the right boob. What are you doing with your excess milk?

LO's still a sleepy baby and I'm really looking forward to him starting to interact a bit more. When can I expect that to happen? On the plus side, he had his heel prick test today and there was very little fuss. It's started raining down here in Cornwall, so not really enjoying the sunny day.

bumpy I didn't realise you were in cornwall, we are in devon nr Exeter. I lived on the lizard for 4yrs in cornwall lovely part of the world. I'm back feeding of shields again babe was getting too agitated trying to feed with out. I trying not too stress too much about it but know it would be easier in long run if she was off them. My DH can't see the fuss but its me who has to hold it in place. I practiced sitting up in bed last night as previous nights id only fed sitting in rocking chair. It wasn't as easy but was warmer for me as I struggle to get back to sleep again after despite being shattered! I'm feeding on demand just watching for baby cues she is hungry (mainly lip smacking, eating mine or DH neck, sucking her fists) so I'm not expressing off any milk and it seems ok. Through night its every 2-3hrs. During day the same but she had couple cluster fed sessions 1-3pm and tonight every hr 5-8pm. She not awake much at moment. Around 5wks you start to get more smiles and interaction. My favourite time with DD1 was after 1yr as she was mobile and full cheek personality came out but they all different. Just enjoy each stage its different :-) each day brings new things like when they find their hands, then their feet its funny.

Omg. My milk came in yesterday, day 3, and I was in terrible pain. DD is having problems latching on so boobs left extra tender. I tried expressing but boobs weren't ready for that. On top of boob pain I had grape pains and had to lie down most of the day. Anusol isn't doing the trick. I'll have to see gp about industrial strength cream or even pressed. Anything to get rid of them Sad
I gave in and used a bottle to feed DD today as she was in the nipple shield on my boobs for 3 hours. I couldn't tell if she was feeding or not so gave her expressed milk in a bottle. I see the midwife tomorrow and I'm gearing up for the pro BF lecture they always give. Last midwife told me that I shouldn't use a dummy (not that I would as I don't like them) and that they don't really think mixed feeding is a good idea. Why do they have to ram BF down our throats? I hope DD hasn't lost too much weight from all the poo she's been doing and i don't get patronized by MW tomorrow. On a happier note all my colleagues have disappointed statuses on their FB as it's the start of term tomorrow. How summer break flies by!
Hope BF gets better for you ssmile and your boobs and grapes get better bumpy.
When are we going to get some more arrivals?!!!!!

Oh summetpixie big hugs your way I promise the BF will get easier in next few days if you do hang in there. I mixed fed for days 3-6 to ease my boobs, now I've not given formula in last 4days as not needed it my boobs dipping milk. I found gentle hand express milk into sterile cup really helped me. I did it half hr before I thought little one would need it and I was calm n relaxed. I only got 5-10ml of yellow collistrum but was enough in days 3-4 to take pressure off boob. Then fed Lo using a syringe. Gd luck. X

summerpixie paracetmal can help with pain & I found cold savoy cabbage leaves inside bra helped for an hr cool the boob. Days 3-5 also the tearful days lots of hormones flowing so its expected you will feel shattered n down. It will get easier each day that passes x

ssmile I've been filling my breast shell and soaking my nipples in my own milk and that seems to be helping with the soreness. Does it ever go away or will I always have to put something on them for as long as I'm BFing?

summerpixie Good idea about the pessary, I'll definitely ask my GP for it when I see her tomorrow.

Everything is going well, I'm living in my dressing gown and starting to feel almost human again. LO is still sleeping all the time. Anyone ventured out into the world yet?

Hi gosh I had milk soaked t-shirts last night 3 of them. Have ordered sleep bras from motherland yest just hope they fit. I had been sleeping with muslin wrapped around them but babe went 4hrs between a night feed I had to wake her up as boob SO full! She then fed on/off burn nappy for an hr 1-2am and slept until 5am I was amazed. My DH on other hand had dreadful night with DD1 she was up loads so he ended up having arvo nap today and I took both my girls to the park nr our house for half hr. But we got soaked in 5min downpour walking back. But I saw funny side:o
MW came for last visit today babe put on more weight seems sad won't see my nice MW again, get HV next ooh er. Last time couldn't stand the HV they just all gave conflicting advice. We only liked one and after couple visits they were happy with us and I just used to go to weekly clinic to weigh babe. Lucky its nr DD1 new school so should be able to do it after walking her down once more mobile. DD1 gone to grandmas tonight for ssleepover as DH goes back to work tom.he bit sad to be going back but its for one wk then hopefully will have 2wks of half days to help with settling in sessions of DD school next wk.
