Went for a Sunday afternoon drive and hald an hour into the drive, DH suggested we "pop around" to see friends we had not seen in a couple of years. They live 350km away from us! We rang, and they were not in, so we just went anyway. About an hour away from their place, they answered the phone and were delighted that we were coming to visit. DH had to stop at the supermarket for toothbrushes and nappies for our unexpected overnight stay.

We all enjoyed our surprise trip including DS (2.5yo), Grace (8 weeks) and my mum (68yo). The trip there took 6 hours (including bf stops, lunch, play-in-the-park stops for ds). The change of scenery did us all good.

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome TMK.

Max is 7 weeks today. Time has gone so fast. He has slept through a few times. He goes to sleep at about 8pm after a bath and a feed. Then he usually wakes at exactly 4am and then again at exactly 7am. It is like he has a tiny baby alarm clock in his crib/cot that goes off at 4 and 7. He usually settles quickly after the 4am feed. I can't complain about his night sleeping, but as a trade-off he does not sleep much at all during the day.

I must say I am very impressed with the talented ladies on this thread. Writing a novel? Playing the guitar? Going to school? That's crazy. I only have Max, dh and myslef to take care of and I
can't imagine taking anything else on. Much respect. I don't plan to start working again until after Christmas and maybe not even then. I might not even try to start up again until the Spring. Is anyone planning on going back to work anytime soon?

I am going to act like a spoiled princess tomorrow because it is my birthday. Dh took the day off from work. My dad and dh are going to make me breakfast. Then we are going to bake cookies and hang out with Max all day. For dinner we are all going to go out to my favorite restaurant with my best friends. So excited.

Hope you all got enough sleep last night. It is 9:30pm here. Time for bed.

Argh, more bad(ish) news... the SW is coming back ... apparently she didn;t realise (!) she needs to do a joint visit with the HV and must insist DH is there just want this business to go away!!

jess, max's sleeping habits sound almost identical to Elise's! She sleeps through from 7 or 8pm until about 4 or 5, and then wakes again a couple of hours later... not sure how to get her to do the long sleep at the other side of midnight!!

Morning everyone.

Happy Birthday Jess. Enjoy your day.

LL - Sorry that the SW business is not over yet.

Cabe - forgot to answer a much earlier question. I'm studying for a Masters degree, via distance learning. I expect you'll complete you degree quicker than my masters though A lot of life has got in the way of me making decent progress.

KK - Sounds like a nice spontaneous trip. 6 hours? Wow.

Alice is 8 weeks today. I almost forgot her first round of immunisations are today. TG for Mumsnet else I'd not have had a prompt from Pooka and would have forgotten.

Alice sleeps from 10pm - 4am/5am. She's becoming more settled in the evenings. The gripyness seems to have gone so she's just calmly awake but feeding hourly still from 6pm until 10pm - so no point putting her upstairs.

I had to make a trip to Toys R Us yesterday to get dd1's bike for Christmas, plus some new teats for Alice's bottle. I hate that place. It leaves me feeling very weird by the time I get to the checkout. I hope I don't have to go again anytime soon. I got dd1's bike and I got the teats.

A couple of people on the Breast and Bottle Feeding forum recommended Mam Ultivent teats for breastfed babies having an occasional bottle. DH tried it last night when he gave Alice her bottle of ebm and she took it with much less fuss. I hope we have turned a corner with this. I'm managing to express 120ml every morning quite easily so it's not a chore to do this one bottle a day.

I'm rambling. I don't have anything interesting to say. I spend my days with a (nearly) 3 year old and a 2 monht old. My brain is mush. Please excuse me

Morning!

Yes Beatie life does tend to scupper plans temporarily! Funny how few men find this when babies, parents, siblings etc need caring for!

Well done for not losing sight of your Masters - what's your subject you boffin

Happy Birthday Jessinwa

LL - how is your dh feeling about all of the SW HV involvement? Hope it all gets cleared up quickly and you can concentrate on reaffirming your trust in one-another properly x

Oh and everyone mentioning christmas NOOOOOOOOO ssshhhhh... I've got so much to do before we get there, don't even know where we'll be spending it, DPs always worked it in the past

KK - what a lovely adventure for you all... I love that sort of thing

Right then, I need to get a wiggle on whilst Conrad naps

Later all

David is nearly seven weeks and I have found the secret to getting him to sleep more at night. Shh don't tell on me as I am sure I will get flammed by someone if I'm not careful. I make up a 9oz bottle of the hungry baby milk for his last feed and let him guzzle as much as he wants and he then sleeps from 7 till 5, in the morning he goes back to 7 oz ebm for two bottles and two bottles formula about 6oz in each in the afternoon. Seriousley mixed feeding but it works and he is sooo much more settled now that he has got a reasonable feeding/sleeping pattern. Next worry is his immunisations next week and the dreaded teething.

I noticed some of his clothes were a little tight and have had to start putting him in some of the 3-6 month clothes allready.

Hi mummyhill

Conrad'S growing out of 0-3 too... he's in 6month dungees today - his fat bottomed nappies take up lots of room in them... I'm amazed they're not too long though, he must be a tall baby

Afternoon everyone .

Alice has her 8 week check and injections this afternoon. Not so worried about her but not sure what DS will think about it all. Oh well, in an hour's time we will be there. Must remember the red book.

Alice has stopped pooing every nappy - there has been no poo since Sunday . I am wondering when and where she will explode...

LadyL, sorry that your SW things aren't over yet.

Kiwikate, that trip sounds fun. Sounds like the sort of thing that we'd need to do on the spur of the moment or else we'd never do it.

Happy birthday Jess (although you may or may not be awake, depending on where exactly you are).

Alice enjoyed sleeping in her cot - she slept from about 9pm (downstairs), came to bed at about 10, fed at 2:30 and then I woke up at 7 with a very full left breast . Luckily she deflated me soon afterwards.

Beatie, I don't like Toysrus either. Much too bright and too many toys everywhere. Although I need to go again before next Tuesday to get some more things for DS.

Alice is wearing a combination of mainly 0-3 but occasional newborn and occasional 3-6 month cothes. Some of her 0-3 month babygros are definitiely getting a bit on the tight side.

Anyway, better tidy up lunch and also stop being on the computer before DS notices and starts saying "Diddy bubbies" meaning "Can we look at the CBeebeies website and loook at Teletubbies" .

Hi all, sorry haven't been here for a while we went to Paris for weekend! all of us even baby. may have been a bit ambitious but it was that or stay home alone with baby which was a terrifying prospect. anyway it was ok. i've been furiously reading the messages to catch up, and there are too many to reply to, so hello to all glad the weekend was good for most of you. we've had 1st set of jabs here and that was fine except the GP forgot to put the imms in the syringe and had to do it again poor baby!
can anyone tell me who or what the baby whisperer is? thanks

It's ok though... Conrad went through this a couple of weeks ago, he's settled down to quite tame nappinoos now

Cabe · 15/11/2005 20:48
