Hello - this is a first for me to be early on a new thread! Good idea MB. Sympathies for struggling with germs and baby. Everyone's asleep here and the house seems strangely still. Dd seems to be sleeping a lot - slept 11 1/2 hours two nights ago and is regularly doing 9 hours. I am so amazed as ds was a terrible sleeper.

I have discovered ebay and realise just how addictive it could be. Have bought a dolls house and furniture for dd already!

no pressure for our lunch on Thursday for me then, hoxtonchick- I can't really get away with double egg and chips now can I?!

I can't believe that little dd is now fast asleep and will be until at least 11.30- hoorah! my new trick is to bombard her with new toys and games and rolling over and sitting up practice... the poor little mite is exhausted!

hope all the colds and upset tummies clear up soon. My remedy was always to have a total wine blow out- it sometimes worked a treat but it was always fun trying regardless- or is that my excuse for being a total lush....

on another unrelated note- my friend has her due date for her first baby tomorrow- it really made me think of all of us when we were waiting... is it just me or does the thought of us being pregnant feel really alien? It feels like such a long long time ago!

{insert a flutter round HC with beak open like a chick emoticon}

just ate half a tub of elderflower sorbet as it was nice and cold and soothed my throat. need more. can't do the wine yet with the BF. i am on a promise with dp for a large, dirty bender when we finally wean. bring it on...back to my solitary beer

it does seem a while ago for sure, but i tend not to think about being Pg as I didn't enjoy it at all at the end!

ouch ouch ouch. think i'll be off to bed. xx

the amount of garlic i've used i reckon you'll all probably be able to smell me from your 'puters. oh god, ds is throwing cushions round the room, dd is watching him with utter delight. is hiding in the loo an option for me?

KVG: Here ya go . I think 'flower' is only in that colour scheme, but they have lots of others, and you never know, they might do a custom one for you.

HTH

Night all.

PS - is it a bit early for pain from teething ? dd seems out of character tonight, having a right old moan and has been extra dribbly... not old enough to actually hold a teething ring etc... possibly would suck a wet corner of a muslin...

Ahh, nice thread title. ds2 is now sitting up semi upright in his buggy and seems to enjoy this more than lying flat. He also seems to be sucking his fists and dribbling loads too.

HC, that sounds like a nice menu. I think I will have to make a visit to Waitrose for some cheesecake now!

MB, hope you are feeling better this morning.

hoxtonchick · 25/10/2005 08:27

i have propped dd up a bit in her buggy too, bagpuss, she really seems to like it. she's calmed down again, after rather a fraught few days. i'm pleased to have my chilled girl back.

supper was very nice, i seem to have rediscovered how to neck white wine..... it did mean that i didn't scream blue murder at dp when he dropped the cheesecake whilst clearing up . still tastes ok though!

m cheesecake. there are two frozen waitrose stem ginger (ginger did me proud when pg, still eating it whenever i see it!) cheesecakes in our freezer. will take iron will to save them for dinner and not scarf them today.

glad dinner was good HC, take it yr free to come do ours tonight;)

am feeling rougher, woe is me, think vin is too but he's not been awake much yet. we'll be having another very quiet (dull) day. I want to get out so badly even for just 10 minutes but not up to slinging or carrying the poor mite and still waiting for replacement buggy raincover! time to crack the windows wider...

see you later, i'm sure!

deffo! vin is finally sleeping. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. will do a run to the very local shops. they make me laugh. there's costcutter - a cavernous dark temple to e-numbers and weird boozes and right next door has just opened an organic shop, tiny and bright selling bark tea etc, twig bread, etc. we call it anti-costcutter in lieu of a name.

sorry to bore, i bet many of you now have a microscopic knowledge of your local area now tho hey?

Oh dear, is it only me who still forces dd to stay reclined in her carrycot, instead of having a view of the world ? Still, she knows all the cloud types by name now. On the Mountain Buggy it is either carrycot OR 'seat' (which can recline, but not quite flat). Think I will keep the carrycot going for a while longer, and then cut large holes at the foot end to allow her long limbs to poke through. Hope to get good use out of it till she is 14.

Have a nice day, and pass some cheesecake over this way.

PS - Bought some Dr. Brown's Bottles in Boots the other day (we'd been using 'B-Free' - they look almost identical). Felt dd wasn't as good on them: more sickup, chokes etc. so managed to return them for a refund. Just ordered some more B-Free bottles direct, with free p&p from the distributor , arrived next day. Recommended.

PPS - I'm a little ahead of myself, but can anyone tell me what is the 'done thing' wrt to baby when they start to half sit up / slump / become a little more interested in toys etc.... we've still got a while to go, but is that where playpens and 'reclining seats' come in ? She could still nap in her carrycot (just, LOL), but where do we plonk them for safe play / snoozing / exploring ?

We saw these fab seat thingies at the baby show, and they seemed well made, and a nice concept... would it be an under-used waste of money or great fun ? (the sides are semi-rigid... strong enough to support babba leaning on it from inside, gentle enough to be trampled by a crawling speed-demon). The designer claims even older kids enjoy reading in it etc.

hmm, they look cool h2d, we've got vin in a baby bjorn seat since 4 weeks as he can't sit up in yet.

got to say its our fave piece of equipment for making him happy, after my left knee. it is so easy to move around the house so he can watch us if we have to get on with stuff.

meant can't sit up on his own yet. plus it is a sure fire way to make him laugh - pick hi up and turn around with him in it.

That looks neat, cacklemonster. Did you consider anything which reclines ? (It looks fixed from what I can tell)...

Maybe one option is just to pad out the carrycot a bit on one end, so she can lean againt the back IYSWIM... The sides are already nice and soft, so am sure I could fashion something spectacularly ugly that would do the trick.

it has three settings - up/play which i think is in the pic, relaxed and zono. we just use it on up and play really.

I have had dd in a bouncy chair since she was born more or less- she now kicks all the toys on the toy bar and waves them about with her hands. I also got her one of those tiny love take along play bars for her buggy (I've got her semi-reclining now) and she absolutely loves it. Not bad for about a fiver on my favourite website of all time. The good news is that I am now selling like billio and am more than paying for my purchases. Yippee (guilt-free-shopping emoticon).

I had to register with a new doctor today and when they took my blood pressure dd started really crying. Apparently my blood pressure really shot up and they made me sit down for ten minutes to calm down!

Report
hoxtonchick · 25/10/2005 20:00

lol, mine did that in hospital hariett (i have dodgy blood pressure anyway) - i was having my heartbeat monitored in the delivery suite & every time dd whimpered it went loads higher.

i still recline her buggy when she's asleep, but she does seem to like her semi-upright view of the world. today's trick is to lift her head off the ground when she's lying on her back. she's surprisingly good at it, looks rather painful to me.

dp was muttering about moving the cot out of our room as she now sleeps through, & she'll only be in the room next to ours. i managed to ignore him!

harriett, you must give me a big kick up the arse to start selling on ebay. i've just given a huge bag of really nice cast-off clothes of ds's to our next door neighbour as i couldn't be bothered to iron them in order to sell them...

oh, & i took all our castoff buggies to oxfam today (3 of them ), & the woman was really rude & told me they couldn't take them 'cos of health & safety. i stropped out of the shop in a really mature fashion & left them on the pavement outside.... haven't driven past since!
