I'm not normally much for politics, but the current government seem to be making some valid calls.
First off, they're capping benefits - sure they're targeting people who might be considered "disadvantaged", but when viewed over the span of history rather than a single individual's sob story, this makes a lot of sense. The last thing we need is people using government money to masquerade as successful individuals; one thing leads to another and before you know it weakness and ineptitude becomes reinforced genetic traits.
Then there's all the tax breaks for married couples that they're talking about. This will give a lot of people a much needed boost in disposable income, especially when they have child care responsibilities. Conservative run councils are also being nice and putting a freeze on council tax rises at a time when we really don't want to see any more money disappearing without visible effect.
I'm sure some will protest about these policies not doing much for single mothers. These are valid concerns in some circumstances; I think that the government should build measures to support widows and widowers in their new measures, because genuine tragedy should never be penalized.
