Turns out that the Hodge family business paid only 0.25% in tax on its profits last year. £163,000 on revenues of more than £2.1 billion. This is from the woman who claimed that tax avoidance is "immoral".

She's a champagne socialist so her idea of fairness is "do as I say, not as I do" and "We are all equal, but some are more equal than others".

I lost respect for her a long time ago after her role in the child abuse scandal that took place on her watch in Islington's childrens homes. That should have finished her political career - but as we know new Labour do love the filthy rich. This news comes as no surprise.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Another champagne socialist hypocrite. I have gone right off labour.

You appear to be confused.

Other people's tax avoidance is immoral...

Nothing politicians do surprises me anymore.

Hello there

There's a rather crucial legal difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion, so we've edited the original thread title a bit.

I know there is a difference and one is illegal but I always get confused which is which. I looked it up. Tax evasion illegal, tax avoidance legal. Can we all pay tax at 0.25%.

www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/9694452/Stemcor-denies-abusing-corporation-tax-system.html

The story has been denied by the company involved, and was investigated in the last issue of Private Eye and debunked. The Mail article is a pretty obvious smear against Hodge for daring to shed a light on the issue of tax avoidance.
